Hi Guys,

Have identified the issue with my Z4 Alpina..

I think i managed to destroy the Alternator when i was jet washing the engine bay!

After some vanos work, could not figure out if i had a oil leak or if oil was on the engine \ under tray from a leak.

Anyway, i have a oil leak + a dead Alternator.

BMW said £550 odd!

Spoke to Euro Car Parts, they said i have these options..

Anyone seen a discount code for ECP? i have a 5% looking for more?

How difficult is this to swap over myself?

thanks

Alternator is easy to remove. It's held on with 2 bolts on my 3.0.

That Bosch alternator has been on sale at around £250 before. They usually do EXTRA10 or EXTRA15 codes at random times. If you can wait until Xmas then they'll probably have those codes on then.

There is sometimes an exchange price too if you return the dead alternator after you've removed it. I got £60 back from GSF parts for my old starter motor. - Got to be worth a try ?

Thanks...:-)

Tired the site...part is cheaper...but with a 8% code...works out the same as ecp.

Near £270 after giving the old unit back..

Guess waiting will only make it little cheaper...£10 - £20...

Will try to remove mine today...and get tbr new one once I'm ready to put in...

You can get alternators, starters etc rebuilt back to new condition for a fraction of the price from any decent autoelectrical store. I would try that route in the first instance.

I did speak to someone..but was not too sure if I should go down this route...unless some one comes recommended?

Can some one tell me how I get the belt off? Will be tomorow atenpting to remove it.

Theres a great guide on here somewhere, aswell as a video on YouTube which makes it a doddle. Not sure how much different the alpina is though.

Hi sam you should try BUYCARPARTS.CO.UK I have used them for a few bits always been good on price and delivery

Will check it out..

have you tried GSF they have a long standing 25% discount code for forum members, plus they seem to be emailing out every week a 35% discount code for use at weekends. I always used to find them cheaper than euro

Tried GSF – they have no stock but can get one for tomorrow.

Cant order online and use the discount code they said as its not a stock item. thats what the guy said...

Cost is £202 + £120 surcharge..

They said these are OE re-manufactured units…? Originals repaired and sold again?

Works out cheaper?

Brand Says premium...what does this mean?/

anyone got anything better on removal?

I've got a spare OEM alternator for 3.0l engine with brand new clutch pulley. It makes a small whining noise but works perfectly other then the noise. If you are interested then make me an offer.
