Alternatives to selling cars privately

It's been ages since I've been on this forum and my personal circumstances have recently changed and I'm thinking of selling my 2002 S54 M Coupe (37k miles) and 2007 Z4 M Coupe (33.7k miles) because I just won't be able to give them much use in the future.

At the moment, I simply haven't got the time to spend advertising these cars privately and having to see tyre-kickers. Can anyone suggest and/or recommend reputable agents or other alternative sellers such as Munich Legends and Hexagon who would make the process of selling these much loved cars as painless as possible for me? What sort of commission could I expect to pay?

Alternatively, if I were to sell the cars directly to a dealer what sort of mark up would they expect to make?

Thanks to anyone with useful advice to me.

Does the mark up matter if you get a price you are happy with? You will get less selling this way, but it will be relatively quick and easy.
I sold my 718 Boxster back into the OPC network, got bids from loads of OPC's and some specialists and then my local OPC who supplied the car originally, grudgingly matched the best price making it hassle free for me.

Sold my then DD Corsa to Arnold Clark who offered more than WBAC and tbh, more than I could have got privately, surprisingly they upped their offer vvvv slightly when I took the car in.

Worth writing an email with as much detail on the cars you can give and send it to any dealers you think may be interested, including local used car garages and ask for bids.

Would you consider selling on this forum ? Cars seem to be selling here very quickly at the moment.

Motorway seem to get decent reviews and feedback compared to the likes of WBAC and I think with them it's an auction type sale with dealers bidding against each other so if the car is in good condition and sought after might be the way to go and it's collected from you etc

I can understand not wanting to sell privately these days.

Tim.

How about your local BMW dealer . It might be worth asking them ?

Stratstone for example https://www.stratstone.com/sell-your-car/sell-my-bmw/

I have read many of your informative posts . I hope it all works out well for you .

Wizzle is another you can try, they make an immediate offer which is normally poor but then you can chose to advertise to there dealer network so you could get a few offers.

Look in your area for dealers who sell good quality performance cars. That’s the route I would take if I didn’t want the eBay,Autotrader way.

Sorry to hear you are having to consider selling two lovely M Coupes. :(

Plenty of suggestions but I'd try an advert for the Z4MC on here anyway. It's free and you aren't likely to get the test-pilots and tyre-kickers you'd get with a private advert anywhere else.

Good luck anyway.

I used motorway to sell my M3 recently and was really impressed with the service. It was recommended by a few people on the cutters forum along with Wizzle. Ended up selling the car for £1500 more than I paid for it 14 months ago. I would definitely use the service again. And no cost to us! The traders bidding have to pay a fee as far as I am aware.

Selling privately wasn't an option really due to reasons mentioned above! Didn't fancy the low ball offers and time wasters. I had already seen the z4 I was after and wanted a quick process which Motorway certainly were.

Many car dealers use We Buy Any Car to underwrite their trade in prices, Evans Halshaw even say so on their web site so get a price and you can use that to get a good idea of what you could sell it to a dealer for.

Sorry to hear you're having to sell.
Hope everything is ok.

Are you still in the process of selling these carsor did you get them sold?

I had a chat with a chap from Motorway today. It was quite enlightening and interesting. Their remit seems to be to reduce the impending monopoly that the company that owns BCA/ WBAC/ Cinch..etc are starting to get in the UK used market and hence dictate price points.
I told him that I had asked my local Ford dealer (as it's a Focus I'm selling) to give me a buy price. This seemed to make sense to me as my car is 18 months old and there are only 2 like mine for sale in the UK!
He said that I won't get nearly as much from the Ford dealer as through them; the reason being that Motorway auction cars to the highest bidder through a network of dealers and garages, so it will sell to a dealer who is in a position (for many reasons) to buy and can sell it on easily and quickly at that specific time. This generally generates a higher selling price. What he said made sense and I'm going to give them a go.
The winning bidder (dealer) then deals with me directly, inspects the car to make sure it is as described, then pays me and takes the car. Motorway then charge the dealer a fee for the privilege.
He did say that it is important to be 100% honest and transparent with the condition/ paperwork of the car, otherwise the dealer that has won will knock the price down upon inspection by quite a bit, or even just walk away and I have wasted everyone's time. That again seems fair enough.
