Alternatives to Hozelock Portable Car Wash

I live in a block of flats with no access to an outside water source.

As such, for the last year (whilst being Zedless) I have used this:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_241043_langId_-1_categoryId_255232#tab3

It works fine for a pre-rinse/ rinse type mechanism.

However, now that I have finally gotten my hands on a Z, I don't want to risk any swirls etc.

Does anybody here have any similar problems (i.e. no access to a hose). How have you resolved the problem?

I know about the Nomad portable pressure washer, (http://www.nomad-direct.co.uk/index.php/nomad-for-car-owners/i_11.html) but was wondering if there is an laternative between the rather lame Hozelock option and the £220 Nomad washer.

Thanks guys and gals.

I use a product called ONR for quick washes... it's very good and easy to use once you get your head around it.

It doesn't harm the paintwork.

What do you mean by "get your head around it"?

I've seen a few demo videos and other information about ONR, but it just looks a bit too good to be true.

Is it a product you'd only use when the car is lightly dirty?

I mean, you have to believe that the product does work, and that it doesn't damage the paint...

I can clean my car in about 10 minutes using it, and very little water as well...

My S8 takes a bit longer, maybe 20 minutes.

It's a great product, you just have to trust it.

You are correct, I wouldn't use it with a really dirty car, but mine are never that bad anyway....

No I'll clean mine fairly regularly, so I guess it should be OK.

Do you use anything else, or is this pretty much your only cleaning routine?

How often do you need to polish/ wax using ONR?

No, I have the full powerwasher, snowfoam etc for a "full wash".

But if I can't be bothered with that (it's all stored at a unit, and I have to pull it all out, put it away again) then I use the ONR on the driveway.

ONR doesn't effect the wax on the car (IMO), so I still to my usual routine for that - mind you, I wax my car once a month... and polish once a year.

For the ONR:

I have a solution made up in a sprayer... spray onto the panel to be cleaned... leave for a few minutes to soften the dirt.

I have another solution, a bit weaker in a bucket with a grout sponge and use that to clean the area, going over softly a few times.

I dry the area with a MF drying towel - it sometimes helps if this is a little damp with the ONR too...

After I have done the whole car, I quickly go over with a detailing spray to help enhance the paint.

Job done, and the mrs still hasn't picked what shoes to wear for the day.... :D :D :D

I have an air powered jet washer. Easy really - all you do is connect it to the onboard air system and it drives a suction that pulls water out of a lake, river, tank, etc. and jetwashes the vehicle free of mud.

Perhaps not what you're looking for as you need an old engine driven aircon compressor, regulated air system and a few gallon reservoir tank. Hard to place on the Zed, but awasome on a Jeep used off road when it's there anyway to operate the axle diffs, power tools and tyre inflation.
