Having ordered a new wheel from Jack at Royal, thoughts turned to the rather tired looking chrome trims on the steering wheel itself and what could be done to either replace or refurbish them,
srhutch posted a rather excellent thread about plastidipping the black trim here: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=37962
However, I've never been a huge fan of plastidip itself and personally prefer the silver trim over black anyway so after a bit of searching found that 3M produce a wrap with a brushed aluminium effect and with a bit of trial and error found one that is a very close match to the aluminium trim on the Z4's dash/centre console. The part number/details of which can be seen here:

As the only parts in the Z4 finished in chrome are the steering wheel/door handles, I took a stab at it keeping in mind wrapping is totally reversible and very inexpensive but was pleasantly surprised with the results. When placed directly side by side, the wrap is slightly darker in colour to the dash and in certain lights does appear a bit more metallic although when separated does match well indeed.
I took a few quick photos to show the result, apologies in advance for the rubbish camera although I suspect the issue is more to do with the organic bit pushing the button!
Any thoughts would be welcome!
