ALPR = Automated License Plate Recognition
Just found out that this is now standard equipment is most Pennsylvania State Police cars.
Anyone else seen this?

Pretty sure they have those in most specced BMW police cars here in the UK too WLH.

Sure - it's a common technology in the UK in static motorway cameras, traffic enforcement cameras and police cars
 
In this country it is called ANPR=Automatic Number Plate Recognition.As inkey$ said uk traffic cops this system and also most towns have ANPR cameras on major routes,and also bailiffs(Repo men) also use this system.

I know they have had this in other areas of the country but I was somewhat shocked to find out we now have it in PA considering the state of the PA economy and the budget cuts the state has been making lately... :o

I'm considering moving to West Virginia where the state is in such bad shape they can't afford gas for the police cars to just go out and patrol. I was in VW last May and the 4 days I was there I only saw one police car.... :police:

Not just in Traffic cars any more either; it`s being rolled out in all marked cars of the Forces that can afford it.......... :|
