Alpine Freestyle 7-inch in E85

Hello,

So I know I'm not the only one trying to figure out how to get a 2 din sorta size screen into our cars.

I just came across this one on the Alpine website, go look at the pics!! 100% in an E85/86.

Trouble is i think it's almost £1k to buy!

Most definitely an E85 in the pics.

Looks like there's a plate it fits into.

Email them and find out what's required perhaps.

I've got to ask why you need a screen?!

I wish i could double din my stereo... lots of features i'd rather have. For starters... can have a single din stereo and one of those single-din-cupholders on the one underneath.

However................................. personally i believe the heaters are massively needed... without them id freeze my butt off driving with the roof down

There'll be something on the market that will flip up so that the vents don't need to be removed.

There definitely is, the pioneer 3400NEX. But flip up then is in front of vents.
Or the Pioneer SPH-EVO62DAB-UNI which is 1 din with a static screen. This is probably the one I might go for but the screen is so fat!

That looks photoshopped to me.

Oh wow! I was just about to message to say that I arranged for a double din to be put in my car and was waiting to get back to my car to get a photo of the surround that was made for it.....I then check this link and that is my car!! Ha. I didn't realise that was there.

The company I used was:

https://www.audiofile-incar.co.uk/

If you are local they are decent, if not they were very helpful (a guy called Gary Haliwood owns it and personally fitted mine) so I am sure if you dropped him an email he'd help as much as possible. If you do contact him tell them you know they did my car.

I have noticed not having the middle vents as there is less air flow down the middle, but as I don't use the car much unless it's warm and sunny it doesn't bother me too much

Cheers

Dan

Seems like a decent solution but have to say that alpine set up looks hideous.

Dan's set up looks a lot better but my OCD still couldn't handle the fascia not being a perfect fit - looks like there's gaps at the bottom corners and that would do my head in.

My solution has been to use a Mous Vent Mount (have a Mous phone case) so I can have my phone display maps if i need them either landscape in the middle vents or portrait on the vent to the right of the steering wheel. I've got the bluetooth adapter plugged into my CD changer cables and have 'Hey Siri' enabled for if I need to make a call or anything so I never actually have to touch the phone.

Wow that is nice... but i still dont think i can sacrifice the vents!! Nightmare...

When the weathers starts to improve here in blighty i will look into this in 2020.. because she seriously needs some modernisation on the dash!

I have one of those Pioneer single din pop up head units.

It's fine, heating vents partially blocked but doesn't seem to matter.

Only issue is any aftermarket stereo with any of the BMW amps is a minefield. I actually blew out a tweeter.

Well that is good to know! I'll bear that in mind whenever I eventually get mine sorted.

I think it looks very ugly - I wouldn't stuff up my car and remove the attractive BMW stereo just to get a screen or satnav that you can have on your phone anyway if you really need it.

@ZeroCool which one did you end up with? Would you recommend it?

Sorry for being off-topic. I'm looking for a good stereo and can't make my mind up which one is the best.

There are so many aftermarket stereos that it's hard to find a good one. Many of them have one digit difference in their name. Anyways I've been reading reviews on the nets and they are all hype. Most of them downplay the negatives and hype features like 7" as if it would be that important. I've found a different blog. The thing I liked about this best post is that it says it how it is. No sugar coating no BS. Even so there are ten or more head units on the site. How to pick the right one?

Any tips?
