Ok so did this a while ago, thought id upload a few step by step pics to help if anyone else is going to get this.
basically wanted dab and ipod controls but keep the look of oem radio, initially was going to get the dice but read a lot of reviews saying about problems with it.

brought it from road radio in crawley £143.00 plus£30 for antenna
Aux converter kit £50.00 but get from anywhere make sure you get one compatiable with your head unit

first thing to do is remove the twin air vents
then remove head unit
 
sorry about crap photos bare with me, and spelling im trying to remember what I did.

so remove vents, head unit then ashtray console thing (1 screw then pop out) then you can get the wires and there loads of space behind there.

on the alpine unit you have aux in -
so fit converter aux (kit £50 thing) pic 1 which just goes into the head unit first then the original harness clips on the other end. you will lose cd function
-alpine power get yourself a 12v multimeter
youll need a permanent live, switched live and neutral
I took my permenat live and neutral from the cigar cable

while still keeping use of cigar port, crimped the cables.
need multi meter again

the switched live is bit tricky and I believe its the yellow cable you can splice int from the aux kit
next picture is showing you the original harness didn't take a pic of which one I crimped so multi meter and check for the 12v switched i.e when you turn the key. IMG_10331_zpscec289a1.jpg
 
ok so you now have power to the alpine unit

the other ports are

your car existing car ariel in

dab antenna out I will get to this

usb port

and an aux out for whatever (3.5mm jack)

as you can see I cut a 20mm hole in the glove box right at the back and fed the cables through

you don't have to do this, put the cables where you feel its best for you - is just how I installed mine.

to drop down the glove box I think its sprung at either side

as they are in here you can plug any music device iphone, ipod mp3 etc
a. theyre are out of sight tidy
b. youre passenger can always browse a tune of there fancy.

NOTE. you CAN control the use of your iphone/ipod through the control unit itself( music only) but can select tracks, playlists, albums etc.and it aslo charges im using and old 3gs iphone which I just leave in there its got all the music and spotfy tracks aswell.

pic above is the unit, not connected up which I put behind the cigar console once I had routed all the cables from head unit down behind heating controls

ok so its along behind glove box out underneath the tucked away under rubber door seal
 
to get it in position on the picture you have to remove passenger visor (2 screws)

then persuade carefully the pillar plastic trim off take your time here as any damage would be highly visable. I did mine without any damage tho.

also you will need to get an adapter for your existing aerial as the alpine has the old style coax (round with point in middle) I got mine from ajays £5.00

so install your cable tidy up and you should have

i will check procedure again and up load more pics in more detail but running out of time tonight
after I did this, because I wanted sitting on top of ashtray console I couldn't get to the cigar charger to plug in the sat nav so had to get an extension and run under passenger foot rest as I say I will upload more piccys soon.

Love the way you mounted the controller.

Why didn't you opt for running it via the aux? Potentially better quality audio

yes its routed through the aux in

I have the 6 disc cd changer so had to get an adapter which then plugs into the alpine unit
 
Ah okay. Was confused that you might have run it through the aerials.

Initial thoughts/review of the unit?
 
initial thoughts are good piece of kit
pros
easy to navigate, seems good build quality, change to illumination to any colour, I thinks its a very similar product to the pure dab

cons so far not used it that long
does take a few seconds to start up
dab reception is poor at the moment but it could be to do with the Ariel or how/and where ive mounted it rather than the actual unit itself.

I have dab in the van and its great but that has the proper metal aerial.
