ALPINA vsZ4M

In real terms does the lack of LSD affect the handling, and do they sound very different?

They do sound very different. I think if you test drive an Alpina you will fall in love with the exhaust note, it is an absolutely beautiful sounding car. Much deeper and more burbly sound than the Z4M. Roof down on a sunny summer's day listening to that exhaust is heaven for me! :)

Oh yes, they do sound nice - and, apparently, it's even better if you go past another top-down Z4 at full chat... this from an old thread...

If you want a really nice sound, listen to an Alpina - I had lots of people commenting on it at the Kent/Sussex meet
Can confirm, the noise yours made shooting off down that A road, my god..

I went through this process, flitting between Z4M roadster and Alpina. I found endless reasons to change my mind between the two cars. In the end I preferred the Alpina, I think it looks and sounds fantastic. The lack of LSD is an annoyance but it wasn't enough to put me off. I quite liked the exclusivity the Alpina offers as well.

After all that I pocketed the 8 grand change and went for a low mileage Z4 3.0! No regrets so far...........

And you can put a diff in it. And a good quality sports exhaust even add a supercharger. They you have an even more unique great sounding car with a proper diff thats as fast and be £3k better off!!! Just saying

That is bizarre, I've just sent you an email about exhaust tips.

I'm leaving the zed as is. I wasn't happy with the steering (fixed with new lower wishbone poly bushes), I thought it looked a bit bland with the 103 style wheels (fixed with CSL replicas) and I agree that the exhaust note is a bit flat (booked in for a back box modification with a chap on here). Admitted it really could do with a LSD, the inside tyre loves trying to spin up on tight corners. Otherwise I'm finding it performs really well with standard power and M-sport suspension, I've put a few faster cars in their place on the track. It seems like a really good car in standard form unlike my Z3, I spent a bloody fortune on that thing!

Here's an old EVO review which has both the M and the Alpina in it as well as the Boxter and a Tuscan. They make direct comparisons between the M and the Alpina so thought it might be of some use to you. Cheers

But, as stated above, at the end of the day all the links are just other peoples opinions/stats. The only opinion that matters is yours, so get out there, drive them both and see what suits you more
