Right...it's too confusing.
We have "hood"/"bonnet" for the hinged panel that encloses the engine compartment, not to be confused with the "engine cover" which has recently become popular to hide the mechanical bits of the engine itself underneath the "hood"/"bonnet", then we have the "trunk lid"/"boot lid"/"deck lid" to cover the luggage compartment, then we have the "top" or "hood" (which I've also heard referred to as just the "lid") to cover the passenger compartment.
How about if we change them all to something more meaningful, like "engine lid", "passenger lid", and "luggage lid"??? :lol:
