Alpina R S Alternator

Hi,

I understand that my 2005 Alpina R S alternator is not Alpina specific and is fitted with the same OEM part as you'd find in a Z4 3.0i. Is this correct?

Secondly the alternator that is fitted to the E85 & E86 3 litre models, are they the same fitment? So many varying part numbers, as well as spec & price. But if I can purchase an alternator that fits my vehicle irrespective of part number at half the price then may as well do so.

Having checked my Alpina handbook it states the alternator spec is 12v & 120 Amp. Would there be an issue if I purchased an alternator with a 12v & 155 Amp spec?

It's been a good while since my alternator went but when I purchased a replacement OEM unit the connections were totally different and only evident when removed from the car. It was strange because the part numbers matched. I ended up returning the new unit and having the old one refurbished. I've not had any problems since...touch wood.
 
We had the alternator changed in ours a couple of years ago and the mechanic thought that he could fit a standard one from an E85 but found that there was a slight difference in the connections and therefore had to get an Alpina specific one.

Can a faulty alternator result in your alarm sporadically going off? I have a CTEK battery monitor & note even after a decent run the indicator tends to show less than 50% charge.
 
Isn't the Alpina 3.4 litre engine based on the S52B32 engine from the US model E36 M3 ? If so, would the alternator maybe be the same one used in that car ? :?
