Alpina or M

I read alot about the M on here but not that much about the Alpina. I know the Alpina is a much rarer machine but is it better than the M ? Is there much difference? Is it more of a cross over between a 3.0 and an M. Opinions please......

Alpina does not have LSD as far as I know, it is also only a pre-face model of course. The 3.4 block is more hungry on oil and petrol as well.

Technically, the M is far superior but it just depends if you want a rarer (older) car or a more moderm newer one.

Performance wise dose it sit between the M and the 3.0?

I have alway like the Alpina but as PVR mentioned it does lack LSD and IMO the "M" is the better choice... :driving:

I'd like to back-to-back drive the Alpina and the 3.0si too.. surely they're fairly close..

Yes, it is faster then a 3.0 but slower then an M.

Well, on paper its a fraction or so slower possibly but nothing noticeable in real world terms. Top end the Alpina is faster and it has no limiter. Totally different engine characteristics though, M has higher output but Alpina has more torque across more of the rev range. Alpina has no LSD as said. Did the M ditch the electronic steering of the 3.0? Alpinas are all pre-facelift I think, Ms all post face-lift. Alpina is rarer and more distinctive looking though despite being subtler the M looks great with its front spoiler, 18" rims and of course quad tailpipes. Alpina has bespoke interior (well, its not actually that different). Think you'd really need to drive both and see which you prefer, Alpinas will of course be a bit older. There was no M when I bought the Alpina so I didn't have the difficult decision to make. Evo did a good review involving both when the M first came out.

Comparison test in Evo :D

Finding great driving roads in Germany is notoriously difficult, finding great roads with a broad mix of surfaces and a decent variety of corners is almost impossible.

:? He's talking out of his arse, isn't he? Jeeez.... :headbang:
