Alpina Chassis number (s)

I took my company Alpina D3BT in today for it's 1st MOT, 09 plate, and left it with them as I was in the office all day, got a call from them saying the car wasn't on their database and could I send the Log book over for them to input the details manually, when I went to collect, it passed btw!, he said he had to show me an abnormality, It has 2 chassis numbers in the engine bay, one matches the chassis number visible through the windscreen and the other matches the one on the 'B' post with the Alpina info, all I can think is that BMW make the car then sell it to Alpina who then do their stuff and give it their chassis number too, but I don't know why it didn't register on the database ? We got it brand new from Sytner Nottingham :?

Had the same with the Roadster S MOT last month, it wasn't listed on their database so had to be put down as a regular Z4. Same issue mentioned about the VINs, all Alpinas have two VINs, one is the original BMW VIN which is scored through and then the Alpina VIN next to it. The windscreen VIN is BMW's. It's an Alpina oddity but if an MOT place hasn't seen one before they can seem quite concerned!

As Glyn says, its all correct - causes issues with MOT stations (I had one actually use a random code that wasn't either VIN once - ended up being the paint code  ). I actually point out the VINs to the MOT station now so they've no excuse to getting it wrong.
