Hey Guys

I'm almost there, I pick up my brand new (used obviously) silver Coupe on Saturday. It's just had an MOT and these are the advisories.

various metal brake pipes corroded
o/s/f level sensor broken

I'm pretty sure I can sor the break pipes myself, but what is the level sensor??

Any help wpuld be appreciated!

Looking forward to joining the crew :D

Sam

Assuming xenon lamps it could be the ballast unit that sits outside the headlight itself and operates the self level. Had one go on my roadster last year , nuisance job not mega expensive ( part was £40 from memory)
Technically I would have thought it was a Mot fail & should be fixed for you before purchase?
Welcome to the coupe club :) I'm on my 4th , great cars

Ahh awesome stuff Mr Wilks, thanks for the help, at the very least its enough for me to get him to nock 50 quid off the price.

Thanks for the info, and its a pleasure to be here :D

Hi and welcome to Coupe ownership (almost)!

My current one had advisories 2 years running for corroded rear brake pipes, so I got them replaced in copper!

Anyway, enjoy your drive home on Saturday. :driving:

And don't forget we like to see photos.

o/s/f level sensor could be the sensor on the front suspension that detects the position of the car and feeds the signal to the xenon light levelling system.

Cool, thanks for the advice, I was thinking braided but hadn't thought of copper, will have to have a look around and see what the prices are! Pics will be on the way don't you worry.

@NickD - thanks for that also, I will have to ask the dealer if the MOT centre said what it was, not sure I want to have a cross eyed Z4 lol

braided would be instead of the rubber part, copper replaces the steel pipes
my rear pipes were also changed to copper this year, £150 to £200 I think, no more rust

I had my rear brake pipes done in 2016 by someone who used to feature regularly on the forum, but has upset a couple of other forum members for not delivering what they were promised. But I don't want to get drawn into a debate on that topic as I think enough has been said already!

Anyway, the OEM pipes are pre-formed so I understand the fuel tank needs to be dropped to fit the new one on the offside. But with copper the new pipe can be poked through the supporting brackets behind the tank without moving it, then shaped afterwards - which helps with keeping the cost down. Plus copper won't rust, unlike OEM ones. :headbang:

So I finally picked the beast up on the weekend after an agonising extra week as the garage kept being sent the wrong part that they needed to sort. However here she is at long last (apologies for the less than glamourous pictures, i was having too much fun driving her over the weekend and forgot to stop to take some good ones).

Looking good.

It sounds like you're already becoming addicted!

Looks well especially the aerial and the folding mirrors are always a nice extra to have - what colour is the leather?

Its black leather throughout, not 2 tone on the doors, sat nat, heated seats, CD changer (no aux in the bottom but there is a hole where I think it's supposed to be so will have to get something sorted for that I think).

And yes I am becoming very much addicted!

So at some point I would to make it look a bit meaner, so was thinking either 19 inch wheels or lowering it a touch with some over coils (or both, is both too much?) what I'm looking at are between 600 & 800 hundred each so wont be doing anything straight away but would love to know peoples thoughts.

Also there are some dull patches where the garage has done some cover up paint work, it looks OK but not amazing. The paint work in general looks like that of a 13 year old car that hasn't every had anything done to it (as I assume it hasn't). I've never cared about a car enough to get any detailing done so don't know much about it but will a really good detail sort stuff like that out?

A bit of a big post (sorry) but any info on any of this would be amazing!

Cheers Guys
