Alloys need attention

I have been getting quotes to get my alloys acid striped and powder coated. The best price to far is £78 per wheel.
Being a engineer I know about this process and think this is very steep.
Has anyone had the same work done and what did you pay?
 
I'm in suffolk, I was getting all of them done as I want a colour change.
I was going to do a poll on the colour change see what peopel thought.
But I'm not paying that price for it.

It’s just £20 per wheel for one piece 18” alloys (without tyres fitted) at City Wheels in Birmingham, in a limited range of standard colours.

Opposite end of the scale are a couple of places around where I live in Berkshire that are charging around £60-70 each, so your quote seems very high unles there’s something special about your wheels?

I was meaning were they split rim or standard .
Id agree £312 for a set of wheels stripped & powdercoated is expensive . From what ive heard /read it can be anything from £80 a set to £400 depending on prep , standard , choice of finish , size & location
 
They are standard wheels I was thinking around the 200 mark for the set.

I paid £285 for my 107s to get refurbished in a shadow chrome finish. This would've been £265 in a standard finish.

Bare in mind the south east seem to have inflated prices for everything compared to the rest of the country.
 
There are 2 places near me.
First said £240 for a set of 4 x 17" wheels. That was a drive in / out same day service.
Second place quoted £280 and needed the car for 2-3 days.
In this part of the country (Oxford) everything is expensive.
 
Just paid £70per wheel to get my 18" cades done, I went for shadow chrome. Its the going rate round here and the job was first class, I was quite happy with the price tbh.

Ive only reduced the price, as I have some others in mind, and if I don’t do something soon, I’ll end up keeping them and spending the money on something else.
You can see how clean the car is.
I definitely wouldn’t run round on bent or buckled wheels.

They are not ‘cheap’, Moore good value. Being 17” means much less popular and more difficult to sell. Seems everyone wants 18” or bigger.
 
I'm paying £500 for 107s with Exel Wheels.

They use Lepsons but also leave you with wheels while the work is done.

They also do a good job.

I spent £260 at The Wheel Specialist years back and you'd expect them to be good but really they were crap.

Fast turn around means blasting = detail loss.
No filling marks, so just use thicker paint = loss of detail.
Poorer prep = delamination in years.
No/limited choice of wet middle coat = limited colour choices.
Covering spigot area and hub facings = poor/tight wheel fitment.
Thick coats and poor application = orange peel finishes, so dull.



After having used supposedly good and cheap refurbishers I'm now trying the supposed best.

Let's see!


The pics on the Exel Wheels FB page do look very very good... I always try find JIL markings or writing etc to see how well details are preserved.
