Alloy wheels

Hi,

I’m new here. I bought my e89 35iS last week. I got it to the workshop for a once over and all is good except the rocker cover weeping and a cracked alloy. Looking at my cars history it’s had a few new wheels from BMW and honestly it looks like they’re not suited to UK roads. It’s running the 19” Bridgestone run flats and I think this is part of the problem.

My intention is to get a repair on the original wheel, and then swap the Z4 onto my 18” summer wheels from my E82 coupe (which is currently on its 16” winters). If it looks and drive good on 18s I may well buy aftermarket 18” for it, or buy after 19” and go non runflats.

What do you guys do / recommend?

Cheers in advance.

Running non run-flat tyres would be better. Run-flats have a stiffer sidewall, and on UK roads they tend to split the alloys. Many members on here have positively swopped to standard tyres and have thus increased ride comfort, and reduced the probability of splitting the alloy wheels. It would mean you'd need to make alternative arrangements for punctures but its a small price to pay for softer side walls and better rider/passenger comfort.

Try it on 18”..I never found the adaptive suspension much cop even on 18”…different folks have different views…only thing in common is almost folks bar 1 reckoned non run flats were the way to go..
