alloy wheel set up

Good Morning!
A real newbie question but here goes.................
My zed has 225 40r18 on the front and 225 35r18 on the back.
If I wanted to swap from my current style to the Ellipsoid do I just need to find 4 good condition 18 inch 107's - irrespective of what tyre size has been fitted to the alloys. Avoiding alloys that have been previously repaired / welded etc ? Thanks in advance

Hi, check your tyre sizes, they should be 255 35R18 on the back. As standard, the 107s should have 225 40R18 and 255 35R18 but may have been changed +/- 10mm in width which is OK. The fronts are 8” wide and the rears are 81/2” wide, which is why they have different tyre sizes (what is known as a staggered set up). The tyre profile (depth of rubber as a % of the width) should be 40 at the front and 35 at the back. Any smaller will look weird and you’ll have a large arch gap; any larger and you may get arch rubbing.

thanks that my current set up with the split rims alloys - defo 225 40r18 on the back and 225 35r18 on the front. So i need to ensure i get 8 inch wide 107's for the front and 81/2 wide for the rear ?

a standard set of 107 ellipsoids should be staggered, ie 8" front, 8.5" rears, yes. Its possible you might find a dicky set that someone has cobbled together that is 8" all round, but thats unlikely. the sizes are stamped in the back, but more obviously, the two rears should be half an inch wider than the fronts.

and then as Zedebee mentions, the correct tyres for staggered 18" wheels are 225/40/R18 front, and 255/35/R18 rear.

if you've currently got 225s all round with a 35 profile front and 40 profile rear someones put the wrong sizes on for some reason...

thanks just checked my tyres and rear are both 255/35/r18 and 225/40/r18 front - so at least thats ok! will look out for some 107's!
