alloy wheel for E89 Z4 winter tyres

Hi guys,

I need some advice regarding what 17" alloys will fit on E89 Z4 for the purpose of putting winter tyres on them.
I'm thinking about getting used alloys off ebay or something and buying brand new winter tyres, but not sure what I need to check in terms of sizing of the alloys when buying a set.
I know BMW winter tyres come with 225/45 R17 wheels. There are plenty of wheels off 3 series BMW's on Ebay, but do I need to check anything else to make sure they fit? (offsets? don't even really know what offset is but I'm assuming it's one thing I need to check?)

Thanks.

Offset it 29 and width is 8.0 for 225/45/17 all round, it's best not to have a staggered set up. You can fit spacers if the offset is greater than 34

Really struggling with the whole offset thing.
I can't find any used wheels that are 29 offset. Can someone provide some guidance on what wheels I should get and in what size?
I've read that using wheel spacers can cause excessive wear on other components?
I just want something cheap so I can fit winter tyres on them....

Would something like this fit?

I went for e90/91/e92 17" non staggered wheels which were et34, 8" wide & put dunlop wintersport 3D 225/45/17 all round on.
I kept them for myne91 when i sold the e89

i have a set of 17 wheels for sale you are welcome to give them a try but i m in Newcastle upon tyne...

This is a useful calculator which will tell you how much inboard or outboard any new wheels will sit compared to your current wheels so long as you know what the ET is :)

You might have a problem sourcing an off the peg set of used alloys that are non E89 as there is fair difference regarding front and rear offsets with the E89.

Alloy wheels direct are useful for checking offsets for other BMW models,

I went through all this with mine but wasn't keen on moving away from runflats and a set 17s with winter RF tyres will be £1500 or more from BMW :o

Decided in the end to get some aftermarket alloys for the Z3 instead and will be fitting them with Vredestein Quatrac 3s for winter use and storing the Z4 over winter :(

Remember if you go for standard tyres i.e. non runflats you will need a couple of cans of tyre weld and a compressor :)

you can use http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/ to see the various rim widths and offsets and match the photos with any wheels you are looking at to make sure the dimentions are being correctly quoted by the seller.

e.g. the std e9x NON-staggered sizes (e.g style 157 which i got) from a 335i are 8x17 ET34 - with 225/45/17, which should fit OK.

Be careful as some e9x 17 wheels are staggered e.g Style 194) (i.e 8" ET34 wide at front and 8.5" ET37 wide at rear, with 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 respectively - the fronts would be OK, but the rears wont fit. (Edit... take the last bit back - the rears will fit as well as the std rear 19" fitment on an e89 is ET40....)

mmmm thats interesting according to that my 17 wheels fit the e89

I think the limiting factor is the offsets on the fronts (rather than the rear) as the front are ET29 on all fitments (8x17, 8x18 and 8x19) but the rears range between 8x17 ET29 and 8.5x18 ET40 and 9x19 ET40
