Alloy refurb/replacement - unsure...

Hiya,

My 18" split rim 108s are in a really bad way so I have two options:

Option 1 - refurbishment
Problem is the quotes I'm getting back are big numbers ranging from £500 - £590, these are from independents and specialists in the Newbury/Swindon area. This is way more than I'm willing to pay so I'm thinking of going with option 2

Option 2 - Buying a set of MV2s
Seems a shame to ditch the 108s as they are no doubt a lovely alloy but the going price for a set of MV2s seems to be between £350-£450 which is more in line with my budget...plus I really like the look of them. Perhaps I could also sell the 108s reasonable priced to offset the cost.

What are peoples thoughts?
Is £500-£600 really the going rate for a split rim refurb?
Does anyone have a set of MV2s they'd be interested in selling.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

Your quotes seem excessive :?
You may have to shop around & may have to travel but you should be looking between £300/£450 to have them split , blasted & powdercoated .
Paint & lacquer offers more choice of colours & a better finish to the eye but not as a durable

Mv2s look well but as the car is black id be going 2 tone on the 108s

Another option would be to use these guys:

http://www.fawheels.co.uk/exchange.html/bmw/exchange/z4-series/ref.no.116-bmw-z4-4-x-18-split-style-108-genuine-alloy-wheels-detail.html

Cheaper than what you've been quoted for a refurb and no hassle with the car being off the road :)

i have the same dilemma, been quoted £500 for mine to be refurbed in the north east, that's powder coated and centres a colour of my choice a bit more than i wanted to pay, also looked at swapping mine for a set already refurbed but no one close enough unfortunately. just going to keep an eye on ebay hopefully find a decent set for a good price.

Where is the quote in the north east from ?

hi alloyfix, I was quoted £120per wheel for the same service with alloypro, im sure they will be done to a high standard just a bit more than I want to pay, plus ive just purchased new tyres and the car has developed a weird noise that my local indy is trying to sort out so need money for what ever is wrong.

Have you tried Romax in Stockton , just had a set of 18" done for £212 not split rims though and they do same day service !

I had 108's when I first bought the car after about 10months went to refurb them and was quoted £450-£500 from The Wheel Specialists in Newcastle so I opted to get MV1's and I got them done with same company for £220.

What is it that is adding the cost? Is it the bolt work - in which case can that be done by you in advance?

got any pics of those 2 tones on a Zed Andy?

My car, not Andy's but the same wheel colour. Personally I'm not a fan and these will be up for sale soon but I do have a forum member already interested so he gets first bite of the cherry. Anyhows, here you go.....

Cheers, they look better on a car - but I'm still not sure. Tell you what, that photo and lighting reminds me so much of the classic 944

My 108s are currently being refurbished at Yorvik Engineering in York at a total cost of £320 including balancing etc

Really good guys, I made sure I made the effort of driving other before hand to meet and check out their work.

Hopefully get them back early next week.

I can see what you're saying although not sure if that's a compliment or insult. :D :poke:

Well I loved the 944 back in the day, it still looks great today with its muscular lines and purposeful stance - so coming from me its a compliment

£375 in london including one buckled wheel repair.
