alloy dash

Whats the best thing to clean the alloy dash and console,mine starting to look grubby?
 
I was struggling with this problem until I mentioned it to my mum. 'Just use Fairy Liquid'. 'Pshaw, I have a cupboard FULL of car cleaning agents, I'm not using washing up liquid!'.

Well, I did and my dash is now sparkling shiny. Seriously Fairy Liquid cleans all of the interior plastics and aluminium far better than anything 'automotive'. Just don't use it on paintwork, apparently the water-based paint we use now will be damaged by it.
 
Yes, a degreaser (which fairy liquid is) should work well on bare metal. Buff to a high shine and you're done :)

A kitchen and bath surface cleaner. It's hard to remember which products are available both sides of the pond and which are not. I try to use generic terms, mainly to avoid providing free advertising.

water based all purpose cleaner that gets rid of the dust, oil, and other items without messing up the finish. You guys might not have it over there.
 
Baby oil to finish and remove any finger marks. Try it on stainless steel hob if you don't believe me.
