Sigh - my problem is that I am basically an audiophile nutcase who spends far too much money on audio/video systems and I just hate it when my music listening pleasure is dampened by less than stellar sound systems. My idea of good tunes from my iPod at my desk consists of only listening to CDs burned only with Apple lossless sound through an Xcans tube headphone amplifier and Sennheiser headphones.

One of the reasons I dumped my old S2000 was the obscene level of road noise I had to put up with in that roadster. I took a sound pressure level meter (yes I use it to tune my home systems) out on the freeway and measured 90db at 70mph. While I had installed a reasonable system in the car for slow in town driving, it had to be cranked up to sound levels that cause hearing damage to be heard out on the freeway. The Z4 Coupe sound environment is wonderful compared to that and the sound system is FAR better to listen to out on the highway than the one I put in my Honda but only because of the road noise in the Honda. At a dead stop the system I put in the Honda was far superior to the BMW Carver system. I'd love to have a combination of the 2 right now but I am afraid that is just wishful thinking given the NAV control systems.....

I've had a couple issues with my dice. Usually fixed by turning off the ipod and turning it back on. Thats about 4 times in 15 months. But i like it well enough. My stereo sounds best top up, but I don't drive that way any more than necessary (37 to 39 F on the way in this morning, all topless!).

I'd rather spend the $150 for the dice and live with mediocre sound than buy a whole new stereo and tear apart a car that already has 62K miles. I'm sure i'd get some new squeaks if I did that.

I use the Monster FM transmitter, cost me about 50 bucks. Comes through as good if not better than radio....I'd almost be willing to say CD quality. That being said, if you don't have it on just the right frequency a radio signal from a tower can and will interfere with it. Took me forever to find 3 freqs with a weak enough signal to work through Vegas. That said, you still have to grab the ipod to change music. Which sucks because A) nowhere's to put the ipod where it is easily accessible and won't fly around the car while cornering at high rates of speed and B) I like to think i'm a careful/safe (yet speeding-hmm contradiction there fo shure) driver and I try to minimize fiddling with various controls not to mention keep both hands on the wheel for the fun corners and emergency situations.
