All the z4 problems all at once!!!

Earl z4 3.0i

Hey everyone,

I'm new but have used this forum so much since owning my z. It's been very helpful indeed!

So, as the post says, I have encountered most of the problems the z4 can throw at you. In the short 2 months I've owned it it's tested my resolve indeed.

It's an 05 3.0i with 77k on the clock, it's been main dealer serviced up until 50k with independents doing the services after that at 60k &70k. 5 previous owners but on the looks of things it had been looked after well. I paid £5200 for it which I thought was a great deal considering its an 05 and has pretty low miles for a 10 year old bmw.......

The following list consists of the things that have gone wrong.

- condensation in the drivers side headlight. Fixed with hairdryer and new gasket on the cover.

- wipers stopping halfway up the screen, sometimes not working at all. Fixed this with a post I found on here, can't remember who by but involved taking the wipers off to get to the motor and cleaning of excess grease. Worked a treat!

- the dreaded amber brake and dsc lights (second week) after having the codes read it ended up being the 2 abs sensors. Not cheap at all!!

- cracked expansion tank (also second week) repair by indy

- nail in the rear nearside tyer (lukily not run flats!) Ended up replacing both because my ocd got the better of me.

- while changing the tires guess what....... 2 broken rear springs! How fun!

- and now to top off a fantastic 2 months of ownership.... wait for it....... THE ROOF GAVE UP! yet to get this fixed yet as it only had a couple days ago but I know it's a roof of job which I found a link to.

Parts bill

-2x abs sensors £250
- expansion tank £65
- 2x rear springs £86
- 2x rear folken tires £260
- around £300 for the new roof motor I'm lead to believe.

All in all a real struggle on the bank and my patience but ill stick with it as I feel I'm into deep now and I kinda just want it to be as good as it can be.

Has anyone else had as much bad luck as me? Did I get what I paid for?

Feel your pain... in the space of a year I had £3000 in repairs needed including new steering column, new airbag control unit, 2 broken springs and both ABS sensors. And wipers parking halfway up the screen which I managed to fix myself. However since then (3 years) the car has touch wood not cost me anything at all so I guess it all evens out over time!

Hopz121, extremely unlucky I'd say!

Omar, I guess it will balance out (eventually) just seems like a lot in such a small time scale.

All these things are actually really common on the z4 and I guess the only good thing to take from it is that it all showed up at once so I guess I won't be constantly worried about what might go next.

It'd all happened already!! Haha
