all of a sudden the z is less appealing

You're right about the 35d engine steve. Its what is inside my f25 x3 and it sure does pull. Even with the car being as big as it is I can comfortably outpace most cars who try it on. :driving:

to say I'm impressed would be an understatement

this is my first diesel car, pulls well, handles well. and all of a sudden the z feels slower....

can't wait for the sunshine and the advantages of the Z to rise again, but right now, if i were to go for a long blast the 335 would win
Yeah but it looks s**t

Step outside, give yerself a slap with a wet haddock on as many parts of your body that you can without being arrested, then come back in once your sorted! Crikey o' Reilly!

Ive got a 330d.and its quicker than mi 3.0 zed.
In fact the zed seems slow now :P .
But get the roof down ont zed and all is forgiven :driving:

Dunno what a sline badge is, but I'm glad the owners have to wear them on their lapel so we can distinguish them from normal folk.

did you used to run a tvr? username is familiar....
Good memory, was a while ago now. :)
I had a Griff precat - loved it at the time. Fast as a very fast thing and sounded epic!
It hardly ever killed me. Much.

This was the last one i built..... 650 HP. 600 tq. It wanted to kill me quite often..... the 335 and z are very tame in comparison,

I've never tested a "big" diesel engine on a good chassis, but always had the feeling the torque at low revs is real bonus. Now what I really enjoy on the petrol 6 in line is that craziness that comes above 4000-5000 rpm: furious sound and engine responsiveness!! Can a diesel deliver the same amount of sensations..?

It's just different, you don't get to hang on to a gear for long, with the 8 speed ZF in sport the acceleration is just relentless, with each gear coming very quickly. But it's the xDrive that makes the difference, the car just positively leaps of the mark, haven't tried launch control yet but will soon

who would want a diesel awd roadster? :|

me and it is by a mile the best car I've owned, it's hard not to be transfixed by the grunt, traction and go...

....and it sounds pretty good too (once warm)

a 35d x drive friend.....

A friend and I did "most" of the famous passes in a week long trip, Stelvio, susten, furka etc. 2000 miles in a week, 8 hrs per day in the car, mostly on the twisties.... was fantastic.... we're off again this year but to northern SPAIN...

I've got a 35is and a 335 Xd in the garage - and the post is no idle boast!
Add a bit of dampness into the equation and I know which car I would put my money on in a race!

When you do - you will be amazed / shocked !
A pal demonstrated it in a 330xd and it just pulled and pulled without a pause.

What a party piece.

But what are you all going to do when the Gov't bans diesels? Push  :?

Tim.

They won't!
I can however see a time when they'll have the equivalent to the German Umwelt Plakette. Ie a tax to bring a car into a city or special environmental sensitive area.

Since upgrading our Mini to the X6 we have also found that the Z is not as special as it used to be.
Its not that it is less appealing, its just that its not a major difference to the other car we had.
The Z even though it is the 23i was much quicker, smoother and just overall better than the Mini (obviously)
But now compared to the X6, the Z is starting to feel a little bit slow with 0-60 times the X6 being quicker.

That sounds similar to us. We had a cooper sd mini countryman and swapped it for a new x3 35dM and the power of the thing is incredible and ideal for carting the family and stuff about. Having said that i couldn't ever imagine choosing it over my Z for a drive out, once the roof is off there's nothing i like driving more even if it's less powerful than the X. I may go for one of Mike's ducklakeview exhaust mods in the future though to unleash a better soundtrack. :driving:

Possibly, but not for a few years :)

The sun came out today, and I escaped garden chores to pop to the shops for dinner time essentials. (Despite the cupboards being full - funny that)....anyway

Took the z, roof came straight down - ended up taking the 20 mile route to the shop which is all of 3 minutes away....

Whilst z is not as quick as the 335, it was lovely to spend time in a roofless car again....

order is restored....the z felt special today
