Quick update.

RobbiZ4 's instructions were very helpful to remove module (third connector was a bit awkward, really wanted another hand). Unit looked dry. Wrapped in ESD bag and packaged. Used DPD with £500 insurance for £35 (cannot imagine stress if it is lost or damaged), which is nearly as much as repair by DJWW.
What concerns me is quite why it suddenly failed, and when it will fail again. I did charge battery directly in boot a month ago, I will use bonnet connections in future, but have done nothing else out of the ordinary.
Hopefully just a simple reset

As Robbi and I stated…they are failing as a function of time and any other actions including battery disconnects ,low volts, system resets or coding of it seems to exacerbate this tendency..

Fortunately for someone with the tools a simple EEPROM reset / flash seems to fix it..hence why so many people offer this service..

Does anybody know exactly, how this has to be repaired?
Do you have any background info regarding required tools and equipment?

Hi Robbi..no I don't ..

I guess its a bench based re-flash as no ine offers a remote flash, in part as ISTA/Protool won't speak to it when it fails..

This explains more..similar technique to early N20 DMEs..

FRM Module returned from DJWW today. (7 days away over Christmas).
After eventually sliding module back into its carrier reconnecting was easy (DJWW recommended doing this with battery connected).
And all electrics work again so refit trim and onto the next challenge....... :D
