All day test drive in September

Well it’s make my mind up time, I had a run out in 2.0 718 last weekend, pleasantly surprised tbh, more usable power than a GTS and some very theatrical pops and cracks on throttle lift off. Stratsone Chesterfield are letting me have an M40i for the whole day early Sept’ so let’s see which gets the vote. :D :driving:
 
An all day test drive sounds good. :thumbsup:

It'll be interesting to see which you prefer!
 
What happened to your thoughts on a 718 GTS 4.0? I have had mine a week and whilst I have only managed to do about a 100 miles, first impressions are what a car. The engine is sweet and for me mated with the rest of the 718 package it feels fantastic.

ASAP please Boyo baach..... :poke:

In a nutshell too expensive Boyo, I don’t want to stray over 50k as I’m kitting out a new workshop to start a new business next year. If I go 718 it’ll be 2nd hand, or a new M40i. I’ve changed my mind as I now gather Porsche have put back all electric cars for a few years so “Hopefully” if I go 718 2nd hand I can get into a GTS in a couple of years. If I really prefer the M40i then so be it.

Happy to read you have yours, I didn’t know they had started delivery yet tbh. :thumbsup: :driving:

I paid £42k for my 718, which is loaded full of options. Only major things it doesn't really have are the PASM and PCB. The original invoice price of the car was £67k so there's good deals to be had buying that way

Interesting you mention the fruity exhaust. Surely that was the same on your previous GTS?

Yeah it’s all a bit of a balls up tbh Greg, last year I tried to come off the happy pills for the black dog which I’ve had for a good few years but I’ve had to go back on them this year, some very very scary thoughts were happening, anyway I was off them when I had the GTS and convinced myself I didn’t like it so it went. I actually spoke to the buyer a few weeks ago to see if he’d sell it back to me but he’s keeping it. The black dog makes you think and act in some strange ways. There’s a couple of nice Boxster T’s for sale right now, so we’ll see when I’ve had a day in the M40i.

I know the feeling well. Make everything around you seem s**t and punish yourself for it, then take it out on those closest to you despite your best efforts not to becuase you know you shouldn't?

Glad you've come to your senses :lol:. It really is a gem of a car. Gives you that special feeling that other cars don't.

Get yourself a Miami Blue Boxy and we can go for a cruise like a Porsche Advert :thumbsup:

Your first reaction (to sell the GTS) was probably the right one. The 4 cylinder might sound ok on a test drive, but they’re just not very nice and you’ll want the 6 within no time.

I’ve started to see a few M40’s on the road and I’m starting to grow to like them. For £30k ish for a new car that’s a lot of bang for buck.
 
Hard to see how you are going to be happy with a basic 918, however technically brilliant and fast it may be in the real world. When it's clear reading this thread and others that your heart is set on a GTS. Surely it's better to run around in bin sack, than buy the car you don't want. :?

I too considered the 718 Boxster before getting my M40i. I've never driven one though. For similar money the only option was one of the 2 litre units so either the standard Boxster or the S, but then even the S is pushing £60k with decent options. You just can't spec them up to a similar level of that of the M40i with pretty much all of the option boxes ticked and be within £10k of each other. The other thing, that interior. It's too dated.

I'd imagine however though that all might be forgiven on a test drive.

When they get to refreshing the 718 to match the interior of the new 992 then I'm there!

The 718 Cayman S is actually a 2.5 and has 350bhp. Also, you really should look at residuals when comparing different makes.

I tried a couple of 718 2.0 Boxsters, I couldn't believe the engine noise when idling, it sounded really rough. At speed it wasn't much better. This issue has been mentioned and discussed on various forums.

The 718 GTS with the 2.5 engine however is a different matter, but then the price is a jump as well, and once the essential options are added it's heading to £70k and beyond.
