If you are proposing that different DME calibrations count as the engine being different then you are also suggesting that a car with cruise control has a different engine than one without because to enable cruise control within the DME you have to change 1 hex byte.

No other changes in Europe save a few bits of plastic ?
Silver mirrors, different bumpers, louder exhaust, an extra logo on your floor mats and speedo and a stiffer drivers side engine mount.
It's a shame really as they could have easily done something meaningful like fitted the M3 front control arms and made something that actually performs better. Still not a bad deal for someone not wanting to tune their car.
