Alignment Z4M Vs M3 CSL

So if I understand this right both your cars now have a more neutral geo set up changing the cars handling more towards benin / neutral/ balanced handling?
And you've tried that on track too? thought it was quite busy on the steering wheel. Both of you have got upgraded suspension right?

The OEM set-up with a fair amount of toe-in favours straight-line stability at the expense of turning ability, so reducing toe-in will make turning easier. I've not yet taken my Z4MC on track, but from my previous experience of modding the suspension of my Z3MC, experimenting with setting up the geometry, test driving on my test route and taking it on track, I know that the changes and set-up to my Z4MC will work on track.

I have AC Schnitzer Racing suspension, StrongStrut strutbrace, 10mm wheel spacers all round, H&R 30mm adjustable front ARB and RTAB Limiter Kit.

Are you happy to make adjustments to the geometry of your car, yourself? If so, you can experiment with different settings at no cost, and that way, you'll find the settings that suit you the most.

Lower, good to see you around again, seems we've both gone to the dark side! :P

seem to be a few of us that have moved from the S2000 to the Z4M. Its a nice upgrade.

I see you bought the softer version though :)

Not quite true.......we saw PY on track 10 days or so ago.... :poke:

 I've never driven a car so slow in all my life! :(

You see that's why I've not modded the suspension on mine yet because I thought I was going really quickly !

I shall be going to one of the BMWCCGB organised events though soon. That little introduction whetted my apetite you could say !

Yes you like the security but that hurts the front end, you drive the CSL for example, and you feel the rear end helping to push you into the turn under braking whereas the Zed is trying to push you straight on.
I have to say mines totally fine? It'll oversteer no problem at all? Maybe a bit more camber up front would help when really pushing on but I wouldn't say it's understeerey?

Something controversial to add, the roadster has a slightly more aggressive geo than the coupe

Less toe in up front and less toe in at the rear, total figures are 0 deg 04 and 0 deg 22. Camber unchanged.

Very strange!
Maybe thats why I think the settings are ok then?! Strange isn't it!

My car may of also been geo'd before I bought it so I could do with checking this as I may not be comparing a standard setup!

I did the coupe thing with the porka, never got on with having a roof so had to go back to having no roof :P

My Z4M has settings much closer to the CSL than stock Z4M, I definitely like it. I do have very slight toe-out to the maximum limit spec'd for the Z4M (this is a matter of personal preference, it may be too nervous for your likes).

In terms of steering weight and castor, it is only one parameter that affects the weight and feel, several other factors are scrub radius (can be changed by changing wheel offset and camber), tyre parameters (width, pressure, tread design, compound, construction) and SAI (steering axis inclination, the lateral angle from the top of the strut through the lower ball joint, compared with castor which is the longitudinal angle).

No deffinately not touching that  I'm no mechanixc, I would loveto but live in town...

I did get in touch with ACS UK for that suspension. Are you running 19" wheels with that? How is it (I might have missed a post)? Is it fully adjustable?

I'm running OEM 18" wheels and I'm sticking with them for several different reasons. The rear suspension isn't height adjustable but the front is. The dampers are a combined adjustment for bump/rebound with 9 different positions at the bottom of the dampers which makes for easy adjustment.

I thought I'd drag this one up again as my Z4MR is going in for an alignment tomorrow now it's sitting on Eibach's. Also wondering if anyone has since set their car up based on this thread.

So I've been discussing this one with my good mate Daryl who started this thread... based on his experience and other info online we reckon this should be a nice fast road setup for a ///M roadster. Anyone got any comments on this? Bottom line in the below spreadsheet.

I don't need stability at 150mph, I need a setup which will make the car sharper on B class roads, that's where it spends its life, not on the autobahn. So happy to compromise in that area in return for an improved turn in etc.
