Alignment Check

Hello

I want get my Z4M Coupe's alignment/tracking all check as I have my tyres are wearing very unevenly on the front e.g. one is now illegal and one is fine. Also it is pulling to the left a lot.

Does anyone know the difference between somewhere MichelDever Tyres doing the tracking/alignment etc and a BMW KDS alignment check.

My usual local dealer want £150 to the KDS check which they say takes 2 hours but another local dealer wanted £320  .

Anyone had this KDS done?

Kind Regards
ScottK

Try giving Wheels in Motion a call. Their quote was very reasonable and I've heard good things (not used myself yet). I'm sure it should be nearer £100...

Be careful as they say the check costs £150 but if anything needs adjusting then it's charged as an extra.

I'm not sure of the differences between the BMW KDS system and other alignment systems, but the Hunter system is generally regarded as the next best thing. See http://www.alignmycar.co.uk for your nearest centre.

I am getting mine done tomorrow morning. The place I'm going is called Pro Grip near Falkirk in Scotland (doesn't help you too much!). I have used John at Pro Grip before, he uses a Hunter DSP600 which is the dogs bollocks! It's the best alignment system there is. I would also much rather take my car to a geometery expert rather than the dealers etc.

Also shop around!!! Some places as you have found will charge £150 for check THEN labour ontop for adjustments (there is always adjustments to be made!!!) The place I'm going charges £60 all in!!! . Cant ask for better than that.

Yep, i'm having my alignment done tomorrow. as well as having 452's fitted. double trouble.

£60 for me too. also on a Hunter DSP 600. have heard good things about it.

place called Drury Lane Services in Oldham. Also no use for you!

but hey, lets hope it makes a difference, cause the zed is a bit twitchy at the mo!

I've used Micheldever tyres before on previous cars, all in for something like £18 or £28(can't remember now as it's been a few years). It's a fairly quick job, 15 mins or so even with a few adjustments. I've watched them doing it and I really don't get where these charges of £150-320 come in, a complete rip-off? Micheldever even give the before and after printouts, and they advise getting it checked approx every 18k miles
£320 without any parts required, that's 4 hours labour - no way. And £320 every 18k miles, that's more expensive than servicing for most cars.

I live nearby in Guildford and I've used Micheldever, Merrow Alignment in Farnham and lastly Wheels in Motion, on three different cars, the last being for the Zed as shown here:

All did a good job and in the case of WIM, solved the tendency of my car to pull to the left. If I recall it was in the region of £70 or so about three months ago.

Its nice to see some more local Z4M's near to Farnham.

James_G I also have the same colour Coupe as you. I'll keep an eye out for you...

Car is off to Micheldever on Friday for some new tyres and alignment check (£28) not paying BMW £150 for it  . Alignment must be way out as only one tyre needs replacing at front, although shall keep that as a spare.

dewarcraig, good to hear another person who uses John @ ProGrip, he's a top man

Fitted my new bushes and full alignment on my Z4 but previously used him for my past 3 vehicles. I'm just not sure whether to bother him with checking the alignment on my van, almost seems a bit fo a waste to use his talents on a crap vehicle like a van!

Likewise. There's a black 07 roadster around our way too, always got the roof up, always a bit dirty, always heading out of Guildford toward Farnham when I see it on my daily walk home from the station.
