Aldi 'dremmel' type tool

There have been several posts with questions about Dremmels and which one I've used on the many Zed projects, so a separate post.

I notice this week Aldi are doing their version again, which look similar to the one I picked up a couple of years back:

http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/2827_13039.htm?WT.mc_id=2010-02-16-11-28

At just £12.99 inc a bench stand and flexi drive it's good value. You could pay £10 to £20 for a flexi drive alone...

Add the kit for another £2.99

iirc it will be by Craft and have a 3 year warranty

I bought one and used it to do the cutout on the lower steering column trim when i fitted CC,the only problem had with it that it didn't have enough power you had to nibble away at the trim because if you tried to cut too much it would stop. But it did leave a nice clean cut with the cutting blade. So i will give it a  up for the money a good bit of kit

EDIT just clicked the link different to the one i bought looks more powerful.

i have one similar, also from aldi but this looks a bit better as it has the stand and seperate flexi drive. i might get one.

cj i must have the same one as you, i got it a couple of years ago and it is still going strong. granted you cant press into the material too hard but usually if you require a dremmel you are doing a job that needs patients so its no bad thing.

peddy needs one i think. these look pretty good for the money.

I agree about the pressing too hard stalls it, however I tend to be doing jobs where it doesn't need pressure, else I crank the RPM up until it screams

Excellent, good to here them getting recommendations so I'll try my local Aldi and see if there's any left...

ALDI RULES!!!!! :D

its great for cheap offers on stuff like this. even if you get a couple of years out of it there will be another dirt cheap one along in no time :D

Thanks for the heads up... just had to find where my local aldi was.. but then managed to get the last one!

Not sure what i will use it for yet though!

None left in my local Aldi's :(

Can anyone suggest a good value alternative, as it's something I could kind of do with soon...

ally, i would have bought one for you and posted it up but they are quite heavy so i dont know how much postage would be and if you would save anything as a result.

let me know if you want me to

That might actually be a plan! By what cj10 is saying, these are a bargain given the bench mount, etc. so even if postage is a fiver or so it might be worth it. I'd happily paypal you the money if you were able to get one for me and post it up - plus a little beer money for your hassle. Would you mind having a look for me and letting me know?

Cheers :)
Ally

hi ally, il have a look today/tomorrow and if they are in stock i will get you one. would you want the accessory pack also?

Cheers that would be great. Yep, if there's an accessory pack then grab one of them for me too.

I'll check back tomorrow :)

I know it isnt as cheap, but maplin have this for £19.99. It does include a large accessory kit tho. If you have a look through their online catalogue there is quite a choice.

Good find sideshowbob

What do the others think of the Maplin one? Similar to the Aldi ones or other ones that folk have? If it's similar, then it'd probably make as much sense for me to head down to my local Maplin instead of Rudd posting an Aldi one to me...?

Don't think I'm trying to sell the Aldi one. I'm not for one minute, but have used it with great success.

I'd comment the Maplins is 12v so no grunt behind it, has an integral tool kit unlike Aldi that is separate so you can pick another up anytime and is missing the flexi drive that's the 'killer' accessory. To me not in the same league £ for £

do you still want me to get you one ally? im going along some time today to get one.

ill just buy it and if you dont reply beforehand its easy enough to take back

To be honest with you ally, i would go with the aldi one. Looks like a cracking deal. I Just posted up the maplin alternative in case there was anyone here that needed one but wasnt near an aldi.

If you do decide to go to maplin, have a look at the others they sell first. There may be an alternative that suits you better.
