As you said, a bit too much "Playstation", that`s not for me....
I promised an update when my mod was finished and yes I finished my steering wheel yesterday 
I got the last alcantara piece trimmed with beige stitching to match my interior. Also the gear gaiter was custom made in alcantara with beige stitching. So this is now a little different steering wheel that I am very satisfied with
Here`s the pics:
This is the original lower spoke of the M steering wheel.
I twisted off the original leather.
Then I glued on the new alcantara piece and then the M badge.
This is the result, but some bad quality pictures :| :
