ALARM SENSOR REPLACEMENT

Hello

Further to my recent post regarding 'random alarm activation', i have sourced the bonnet alarm sensor part from a dealership for the grand sum of £8.60 inc VAT (Bonus).....

Just a few queries, is it a case of doing a straight swap, or do i need to disconnect the battery or anything ?....

thanks in advance..

All done, took 30 seconds in case anybody else has to do this. Just unplug, and replug...easy and it seems to have fixed the problem. The neighbours can finally get some sleep !

Alarm fix: £8.60 ... peace for the neighbours: Priceless :D

Hi Easty, thanks for this, mine has just started to do the same!

What was the part number for the sensor you changed? Any chance of a pic showing where it is and how to plug / unplug?

Many thanks! :D

The dealership had some problems finding it on the system as its described as a switch, not bonnet sensor. I dont have the receipt to hand so dont have the part no. As for the location, where the strut brace meets in the middle (towards the cabin) it sort of sits on top, its a black rectangular box with a black plastic pin sticking up, almost like a door locking pin.

£8.60 from the dealership, and its just a case of pulling the cable out, then pulling & twisting the box and it just lifts out of the cradle. Then simply plug the new onr back in. I have limited DIY skills but it really is that easy, less than a minutes job.

Its certainly fixed mine as i have had no false alarms since installation a few days ago !...

good luck..

I have this problem too.
The car is under AUW so Ill be getting my local dealer to fix asap.
In the meantime, can you disconnect it temporarily to stop it going off all the time?
If so, where is it found under the bonnet?

Thanks,

Phil.

If you read easty027's post it directs you straight to it...

Missed those few lines!
Thanks.

Still, does the system read a disconnected cable as "Just ignore" or "trigger alarm"?
I dont have one to swap out until I take it to the dealer so do I have to wait or can I disconnect do you think?

Phil.

Just lock it with the key, rather than the button. I used it as a temporary measure until i went for the part. The dealership i went to in manchester had 3 in stock, so you might be able to get one quickly and not have to order it in, as the guy said they always seem to have them in stock..

Yeah ok, good shout.
Thats what Ive been doing, but just a bit paranoid about leaving my pride and joy without immobilistion!
:o

Just thought Id chime in a say thanks for all the info on this thread :D
My alarm started playing up on Tuesday morning (6am... luckily I normally get up about then anyway...), went off again at midnightish Tuesday night (not so friendly...) All day Wednesday (much to the annoyance of my neighbours...) new sensor fitted Thursday morning and peace has been restored - and all for only £8.75 :D

so thanks 8)

there's another method which will prevent the alarm from going off randomly. when locking the car with the button on the key press the button to lock (as you normally do) and then shortly after (about a second after) press and hold the button again until you see the alarm light go solid red for a few seconds.

I am not sure what that does to the alarm system but seems to do the trick .

that disables the Interior motion sensor and tilt alarm sensor... Apparently for train/ferry rides :D

not sure it would helped with the bonnet sensor but worth knowing
