Alarm just went off...sitting on my drive?

Is this normal? Car on a flat surface though in gear, no odd slopes etc.

Alarm just went off there for the first time - it's pretty rainy here but seemed odd. No sign of jakeys trying to steal my wheels...any ideas?

Proper heavy rain / mental winds set my alarm off for fun.

Not BMW specific, has happened to most of my cars over the years. Maybe once or twice a year.

I can see how some of the gusts in the South East could set off a motion detector, especially if there was anything left in the car that could rock / move about.

Was the handbrake on? With it off, in gear, and wind from the front or back it could rock the car with the movement in the gear box.

Hmm a bit windy I guess but not hugely. Handbrake was defo on.
What's the bonnet sensor??

Thanks for the replies guys - keen to make sure nobody nicks my wheels!

Mines went off twice in one night last year when it was chucking it.

The bonnet sensor is there incase someone tries to lift the bonnet and get into the engine bay. However it can be 'sensitive' and wind or bouncing heavy rain can set it off

Cheers Angie, didn't know there was one but that's handy to know.

Well my windows open onto the drive as it's still toasty in here for some reason so if it goes off tonight I'll be sure to hear it!

Thanks folks :)

Don't know how old your car is but on my previous 2.3i there was a common problem with the alarm being too sensitive if there was a burst of heavy rain. Bmw have a fix and mine was done under warranty

My alarm used to trigger in heavy rain - but there is a fix !
There is a BMW leaflet to the dealer and it shows a sheet of foil fitted into each of the doors.

Since mine was done , no more false alarms!

There is a PUMA on the service information at the dealers for the Alarm problem.
Perhaps you should mention it to them or take it to another dealer.
Hope you get everything sorted. Those other problems do cause some concern that you could otherwise do without.

For reference!

Here's a copy of the doc.
