Alarm Help

Hello everyone,

After months of looking i finally parted from my beloved Alfa and I bought a 2005 SE (yes its pre-facelift and yes its only the 2.0 but its still awesome) this afternoon :D

I was however minding my own business this evening when an annoying beeping sound interrupted the tv and it turns out it was my zed :( I cant figure out what the problem is with it. Ive used the key to turn the alarm off which is fine, however, when i come to lock the car again sometimes the alarm will start up and other times it wont. ive opened and shut the doors as well as the boot and i opened the roof and closed it again so im sure nothing is open. Sometimes the hazards will flash when i lock it and on other times it wont. Also sometimes when i have unlocked the car the driver window goes all the way down, it doesnt come back up when i shut the door. i havent been able to spot any obvious pattern with the light on the mirror. Theres no lights displayed on the control panel when i turn the engine on.

I just cant seem to figure out any pattern as to what can be causing the alarm to go off and what i need to do to make sure its all ok :?

Has anyone any ideas/pointers/tips so i can relax and look forward to some happy motoring tomorrow

Thanks all and thanks to all those who posted purchasing tips; assuming this one isnt a duffer they were really helpful :D

Sounds like the common bonnet sensor issue.... Think it costs a few pounds from the dealers..

I too thought that, replaced mine and still have issues

Exactly the same issue with our Zed as soon as it took it home (dealership (not BMW) must have known it was dodgy).

It was the bonnet alarm sensor, lift bonnet, middle of back of engine bay (by the windscreen) you'll find the sensor, ~£10 from a BMW dealership and a minute to replace.

I don't see how the bonnet sensor will effect the windows?

is that maybe because im just pressing the key down too long and its mid full opening ie the roof? but then again if it was that surely the passenger side would be dropping too? :?

maybe i should take a trip to halfords and see how the battery is and if they say its ok ill have a look at the sensor thing. im just a bit worried as im not very mechanical and i can see a £10 part with a £300 labour bill to see in the new year

Go the sensor route like the lads say, if that doesnt work it's the battery

Hi Chris,

We had a similar thing with ours, just disconnect the bonnet sensor and try it, sorted our problem out. Which does remind me, must get a new one, left it disconnected for about 3 months now

Try re setting the windows for the window problem, put the window all the way down then continue to hold the button down for 10 seconds then put it all the way up and hold the switch up for 10 seconds.

Give it a go, might be worth a try.

i think i have disconnected the bonnet sensor :? ... could anyone tell me if i have??? ive found loads of posts about it but no pictures. from what i read though ive assumed its the box above where the metal bars meet in the middle. if ive somehow turned the brakes off or something id be happy for you to let me know lol

thanks in advance as im not a bit worried to use it in case i pulled out something vital!!!
