Alarm going off...

Having had my car for two years now, the alarm started going off last night whilst I was filling up which surprised me because I didn't know it had one ( I thought it only had an immobiliser). The indicators weren't flashing or anything just a very loud beeping noise. I think I might have pressed the lock button on the remote fob twice by accident, does anyone know if there is a panic alarm or similar on the car...

Did you have the roof down and put you arm inside?

Either that or your bonnet sensor could be on the way out, which is a common problem.
 
I'd be glad if the the alarm was going off because the roof was down because it's a coupe :lol: Bonnet sensor is interesting though. It stopped after various random button pushing on the keyfob.

99% of alarm issues does seem to be the bonnet switch (my X5 suffered from that one as well). Only a tenner to fix though.
 
I've replaced mu bonnet sensor also. But yes there's also a panic alarm. I think you need to hold the boot button on the fob for a few seconds to activate.
 
Can't offer a solution, but the exact same thing happened to me a few months ago.

Was happily filling up with fuel when the alarm started beeping, but the indicators weren't flashing. To be honest it took me a few minutes to realise it was my car. It's never happened since, I wouldn't have bothered posting but it's such a coincidence that I was both filling up with fuel at the time, and that the lights didn't flash (they do normally when the alarm goes off).

For what it's worth my bonnet sensor was replaced under warranty prior to this incident, as before that the alarm would just go off randomly.
 
I have dont this one... no idea what button got held down while i was carry things.. but it triggered some panic alarm.
 
Check that the bonnet sensor hasn't stuck with a bit of gunk. Very easy to clean and then apply a bit of light grease. My Series 1 was playing up a couple of months back and there was a topic discussing this common problem. If the sensor is knackered then one can be purchased for around a tenner.
 
The bonnet sensor got me on the last Zed. Apparently its a cheap fix and easy to replace the sensor.

I found a liberal application of WD40 and pressing/depressing the sensor to lubricate it fixed the issue.
 
Handy thread this - mine has been doing the same as of late, but I've just been locking it with the key for the last few months (it's secure anyway), as I couldn't be bothered to troubleshoot it. Will order up one of these sensors/switches and see if it does the job!

They very rarely fail. Try to clean it and lube it before giving the stealers a tenner. :wink:
 
Meh, ordered it now. I might have a look if I have time, but picking it up tomorrow. It's only a tenner. Can always take it back if I get the old one working tho...
 
Mine has gone off three times tonight. :headbang: It's much too late for this. Why does it only happen in the middle of the night? Damn you, BMW, for sticking us with such a lousy alarm and no aftermarket choices!!! :x I'm almost scared to re-arm the stupid thing, which utterly defeats the only point of its existence. Fail!

I'll check my engine bay sensor tomorrow. WD40 it is. This thing has gone off randomly several times since it was installed new. Maybe the engine bay sensor was defective/ungreased from the factory...
