Alarm going off

The radio itself is not connected to the alarm system, just the following:
. Boot lock
. Bonnet switch
. Tilt sensor (behind rear bumper)
. Motion sensor (under centre console)
. Rear view mirror (don’t think this is a sensor, just the flashing LED)
Cheers Ben, and the doors I assume?
I've ruled out the bonnet switch already.
I can confirm that the mirror sensor is definitely NOT 'squeezable' and my research suggests the interior uses microwaves, not air pressure. Which makes a lot more sense on a flexible soft top.

You are correct. It appeared not from the wiring diagram, but the GM monitors the ignition lock (terminal R) and the door contacts as well.

I leave mine in the garage with the roof down and the alarm doesn’t get set off by draughts or creepy-crawlies, so whatever is going off in Ed’s car is being overly sensitive (or else mine is not working :? ).

Ben,
I cannot seem to zoom in to read anything on that without it getting too fuzzy.
Can you just tell me, is the GM5 module involved at all, as I think I have a separate issue with that?

Sorry, best I could do was screen shot it:

Power distribution at top
Then Siren and Tilt alarm sensor on the left, rear view mirror LED on the right
Then Interior Movement Detector
Then General Module Control Unit (which I understand to be the GM5)
Then Boot Lid Switch on the left, Bonnet Contact Switch on the right

GM5 is further connected to quite a lot of things.

Thank you.
Well I'm being told the non-opening centre storage lid is possibly down the GM5 so I'm thinking that if PH001 replies to my pm I will get that sorted in toto and pray it sorts the alarm too.
All a case of small steps and removing things from the possibles list.
Appreciate the help so far.

I may be being stupid, but isn’t the centre storage door purely mechanical? The push button releases a clasp which is the only thing holding the door closed. There are no electronics involved, except a switch for the little light inside.

Don't be stupid!!! :poke: :D :D :D

It locks when you lock the car, so you can leave stuff in it when you park up with the roof down.
Only in my case it's too bloody secure. :headbang:

Well every day is a school day. Having disassembled two of these now, I never noticed a locking mechanism. Have just been out to the garage to check and lo and behold, it does lock!

I have had something similar.
Alarm started going off randomly, mostly at home and in one supermarket car park. Nothing has really changed that I’m aware of.

I disconnected the bonnet sensor and that stopped it. Bought a replacement bonnet sensor (although this may not be the correct one) however, it was fine for a few days but just started going off again today.

Well since the initial flurry of activity with this, Ed's car has not set the alarm off again, either on my flat drive or their sloping one.
The only extra thing I did was take the booster seat out and stick it in the boot. Doubt that would make the difference?
However, we have one final theory now. Ed's dad mentioned to me that because the car has neck pads on the seatbelts they tend to hold the belt from fully retracting unless he physically adjusts them.
So was it the belt slowly jumping back after he'd got out that was setting it off? If not then I've run out of theories.

One last theory to add... Pets... We had a friendly neighborhood cat that would show up every other night. It would sometimes jump on my wife's car and them that sometimes triggered the alarm. Solution was to buy a new car. (BMW i3S)

Not helping I know... Sorry...

That's not the problem. It's had a cat delete

Right then, let's get this thread back on track!
The alarm went off again yesterday, two or three times. Eventually we opened and firmly closed doors, boot and bonnet (although I've already ruled that out by prior disconnection). That was just the first planned step, but the alarm has not gone off again....................yet.

My research shows that the alarm is basically controlled through the GM5.
We also have an issue with the centre storage lid not unlocking............also controlled through the GM5.
So it's time to pay up and get that overhauled first.

Tried [ref]ph001[/ref], but he's not replied (not been on the forum since end of May).
Spoke to a company in Warrington, but he had no idea about the centre storage door and didn't instil me with any confidence at all.

Any other suggestions where I can get the GM5 repaired please?
