Alarm experts?

I know there are a few on here...

Looking for a wireless PIR/Microwave motion sensor for the garage, that will operate a relay connected to a zone on the house alarm. Garage not wired into the alarm, and running a cable to it would be a pain. Currently have "other" security measures, but would like to hook it up to the main system.

Any suggestions?

My dad has wireless ones covering most of the house, and the garage/shed with his classic bikes in.

It's a Honeywell system, using something similar to these sensors (it's been in a few years, so obviously not this model).

Mum & dad have the choice of code or keyfob (which is what they give to neighbours if they're away).

Cheers MMM - I am just looking for something I can put in the garage, and link wirelessly to the existing panel.

You will need the same manufacturers motion sensors as you current system, different manufacturers will not work together. Plus, go for a wireless pet-friendly dual-tech to cut down on false alarm activations.

What make is your current system? Is it an accredited alarm with a service agreement? Is it wireless?
 
Not being funny but aren't alarms a little old hat these days? If not at home would anyone take much notice of it. I have an alarm with motion sensors but don't really use it much now and rely on a cam with motion sensors so I get notifications. My alarm has gone off a few times when not home which were false much to the neighbours annoyance.

More to do with the fact that if the garage is breached in the night (after they've moved 4 vehicles lol) then I'd want it to trigger the house alarm which is always on of a night and therefore alert me.

Depending on the type of alarm you have in the house, you may be able to fit a Wireless expander to it and then operate upto 8 zones from that, including Contacts and PIR sensors. Due to the climate variation, draughts and insects, in a garage a Dual-Tech sensor( Microwave & PIR) will definitely reduce the false alarms, as previously said.

If you can state (or PM me ) the make.model of your control panel, I will be able to advise what accessories are available for it.

You may also need an additional keypad for the garage, if you are going to be coming in that way prior to unsetting it in the house first ??

Do you have a DIY system or was it professionally fitted ?

What Number 5 says - I was in the business for 10 years or so as well. Proper accredited NACOSS or SSAIB systems installed correctly work. Anything that draws attention is a deterrent as the bad guys will then go elsewhere - although there is always the stupid exception to the rule, or a carefully planned robbery. Pretty rare to be honest. Most burglaries are opportunistic.

I'd be really cautious of using light wave, ZigBee or Z-wave for a serious security application. I say serious 'cuz we're talking about a mans tools amirite? This wifi tech isn't that reliable in my experience.

Do you have CCTV Mike? I have tried a few different IP CCTV systems recently and in the end I abandoned the wireless cameras and went for everything being hard wired in CAT5e and run through a custom Blue Iris server. I run motion detection profiles and have push notifications to my devices as well as images and clips pushed out to a remote server. If you're considering it then I can recommend Blue Iris.
 
I have a Ring Cam for outside which is above the garage and a couple of Blink Cams inside the house all off Wifi and can't say I've had any connection problems or drop off in performance. Both work great and do the job. I went for these as the cloud storage is free for the Blink and £2.50 a month for the Ring which you can't complain at. I did have problems with the Ring initially as it was giving a ridiculous number of false alerts which i think was a software problem but all good now. I really like the Ring cam as you can talk to anyone that appears on the cam when not home.
