Alarm Advice

Hi

Over the last couple of weeks the alarm on the Z seems to be going off, first it started with just the lights flashing and now the alarm is going to......is this a common problem with the Z due to the roof

Any advice would be great as its starting to p**s the next door off

You don't say if it happens at a particular time or place, say after a drive, in rain etc. I've not had any problems but I did read in the BMWCC mag a letter from a chap whose alarm would go off 30 mins after arriving home. It was suggested that air was being drawn through the vents and causing it to trigger. Close vents, prob solved.

Never heard of anything like that myself, not sure if it applies. I think I'd start by checking/cleaning the switches on bonnet etc.

Id put money on it being the bonnet sensor - cheap (less than £10) and easy enough to fit. That's what was wrong with mine :D

As gannet and pugsey suggest go for the bonnet switch. It's a common fault and accounts for almost every false alarm activation posted on the forum. Many of us at some time seem to have had to change it

Test by removing it and using the alarm as normal for a few days. You'll find the switch at the centre rear where the strut bars meet.
