Aircon pump makes the zed sound like an old taxi :/

As per topic subject; took me a while to diagnose, usually when standing at traffic lights with the engine running but switching the aircon off gets rid of the old mkii diesel Sierra effect!

Anyone else experienced similar? Clank clank.

Play in the front clutch bearing, OR is it rapidly clicking on and off? If so, could need the endfloat for the electromagnet adjusting, which is a pain, however if this is what's happening, I have a quick, cheap and permanent fix Chris - Let me know..

Cheers mike, that's an interesting/kind offer. It's not really a concern atm, just a minor irritation for which I'm curios as to whether others are experiencing.
You sound like youve had experience in this department?
You reckon the compressors on the way out?

Prob just excessive end float making the magnet is at the limit of it's operational distance. It's sometimes caused when the little rubber buffers disintegrate, causing the increase in distance.

Aiight. Easy fix/adjustment? Leave it alone til it fails?

5 mins, just bend the lugs where the rubbers sit in towards the compressor by a couple of mm.

Mike

Top. Thx. I'll av a butchers....

Hi did this solve your problem as I have started to have this problem recently and is a worrying noise at first until you realise what’s causing it.
Matt.

I haven't actually addressed it yet.
It's not worrying me enough to start tinkering around outside in the cold yet....
