Airbag warning light

Hi,

I have a Z4 3.0 SE 2004 auto.

A couple of weeks.ago, the red airbag warning light came on and has stayed on. I have had the car diagnosed and the cause is the near side b pillar satellite. The code was unable to be cleared by the Indy. I have read that it could be multiple causes.

Does anyone know what the part number is for the nearside b pillar stellite unit.

Thanks

There is no reason why the code can't be cleared with something like a C110+ scanner from Amazon. The B-pillar code is cleared in a fairly obscure sub menu:

SBSR [Satellite, B-pillar, right]

...but the issue maybe that when the code is cleared then the light comes back on, in which case you need to take the trim off and inspect the connector.

Thanks ph001. I shall try that tonight as I have one of those machines. The scanning tool says left but are you suggesting looking at the right?

For further information, the light has never been able to switch off but I have been looking at a different part of the menu. I shall update as I go along. Thanks

Yes, might be SBSL in that case.

This thread will be helpful.. and someone at the end there might have a brand new module for sale!!! https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=48633

If it is the SBSL module I do have a new one for sale

Hi mac27040,

Just sent a PM. Thanks

not got a PM
to do the job you need to remove the passenger seat, then pull the carpet apart to get to the unit back corner, the unit is held on by a couple of bolts and unplug and swap over.

Remember that the seat has connections underneath and you need to unplug the battery and wait before disconnecting them. Have a look on the forum for guides on removing seats. Easy to do, just need to follow the how-to.

Thanks for the replies. Looks to be a really costly month. As well as the airbag sbsl, I also need to replace the transmission position switch, part alone for that is £420 from dealers. Ouch.

Gotta agree with this. I’ll never get a part from BMW unless it has to be mint like for example a ZHP. If you can get a used part plug and play, why not? Also some modules can also be coded, again reason to not visit the dealer. Other things like brake calipers can be refurbed. So basically if you can avoid the dealer then good. It’ll save you cash for other upgrades! Or consumables like tyres. :)
