Airbag warning light - MOT fail?!

Yeah... I tried all the options and it just comes back with nothing. I did read that most cables don't work, so it was no big surprise. Just need to see if A11y's works tonight and order one myself if it does.... software actually looks quite good, seems like it will do the trick with the right cable.

Sounds like A11y is having better luck than me.... fingers crossed he manages to turn off the light, then I can order the same cable he has.

Update...

Well my airbag light is now off. After a lot of messing about with the cable I managed to get it working with the software... Cleared the code and then ran the "clear errors and run pre drive check" and the light went off. Turned the car on and off a few times and the light stayed off.

Tried the software again and now it won't work, so I need to figure out why just in case I need to do this again... Was something to do with needing to run the carsoft software first but not quite sure.

Seems like A11y was not so lucky, had a chat with him this evening and he gets the same as me apart from he gets the error back after the pre drive check.

Yep, I didn't quite have the success that sp3ctre had, but I suspect that's more to do with whatever's causing my airbag light to illuminate still being at fault, i.e. it's reporting the fault immediately that I clear the light. I did manage to get the light out but only for about 0.5sec lol.

I'm uploading screen shots of the error message but at 0.3mbps line speed here it'll take all night. Hopefully in the morning I'll have the screenshot uploaded and can ask around for help identifying what the code means. It's likely to be the occupancy mat in the passenger seat though as I just tested something else which makes me suspect it ain't quite right: placing a heavy object on the passenger seat without the seatbelt being clipped in, then driving off, didn;t result in the usual alarm to tell you the passenger's not done their belt up. I suspect the occupancy mat is gubbed but won't know for sure unless I either change for a new mat or figure out this code...

Time for bed...

THERE IS NO MENTION OF AIRBAG CHECKS ON THE GOVERNMENTS MOT SITE...

Please see .... http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_4022109

Yeah, very odd, that... although hardly surprising to see a mistake on a Government department website.

Only warning light which is a 'test' failure is the ABS light. Tester may well put the airbag light down as an advisory but its not a fail point. However the test changes next year to fit in with EU legislation so things may change.

I had my MOT done yesterday and asked the tester. He said the Airbag and Check Engine lights are an MOT failure from NEXT YEAR.

Yeah, I just read the same thing, although when I took mine in I did the same research and was pretty sure at the time it was classed as a fail... must've got it wrong, I guess.

Sounds about right :!:

Check Engine light - why? If the CO level is correct, they should not care if your engine is about to implode ....

not part of the MOT as yet.

If you light is on though, the airbags and seatbelt tensioners are all disabled

Really? Never knew that. Why did they link that?

Makes sense doesn't it? i.e. if there was a problem with the system you wouldn't want the airbags being triggered while doing 70-80 down the motorway.

But if an engine runs bad, there is no reason to switch off the airbags though.

It is an engine management light, not airbag light.
