Airbag module

Actually slight update on this. Gone back to the cloning company as they wanted another go at clearing the code. It’s coming back on Tuesday, so I’m crossing my fingers.
If you get this sorted do you fancy teaming up? Me doing Prefacelift and you post?
It’s a right royal PITA for you, but others should benefit in the future.

Definitely not! I’m in way over my head on this and just lucky I have a bit of time on my hands before I start my next job! I have managed to gather that in order to fix this you need to be opening the module up and getting the soldering iron out. Plus use various software, the main one being Tachosoft Online. No idea what you do on there but the Tech guy at the cloning company does seem to know his stuff!

Hopefully there will be a few who will stumble across this thread though and be able to save a few quid and a bloody lot of time!

Happy days. Got the module back today and hey presto, no airbag light on. Off for an MOT Friday!

So to finish off the thread if you have an internal fault control module error that cannot be cleared on an LCI Z4 (usually due to multiple jump starts from flat battery) then you have two options:

1. send off to be opened up and repaired. DO NOT use one of the companies that just clears faults once airbags have been deployed. The unit needs opening up. Not sure if I can name the company I used? Cant see why not!

2. Source a module with the same part number. Although BMW say they are coded to VIN there’s a decent chance it’ll work. If not then you have a spare unit to send when you go back to option 1. They can use this as a clone/donor if needed and/or try two different software fixes on each of the units.

Remember if you are pre LCI then there are many in the forum who can help as you can clear the codes much easier.

Saga over, hopefully, as I’ve still not driven her so guess there is a chance it could return. Fingers crossed all sorted though, new OEM battery installed and I have now got an extension lead to the garage but am installing power down there as we speak!

It’s been a painful experience but thank you to all the contributors and big shout out to Enuff Zed. Legend. 👌

Well done Tom!
Please do share the company name. It will help others in the future i'm sure.

Cool. It’s JC Cars/ECU Connect in Norfolk. Make sure you speak with the tech before purchasing online.

That's good to know

Are you a Norfolk resident Tom?

Google reviews are good and people mention the ECU's

Hi, not a million miles, just south of Cambs, next to Essex and Suffolk border. Once she’s on the road I’ll defo be up for one of the meets over this way or that!

Yes a meet up will be good

It's funny the place you found was right on mine and Martin's door step :D

Hmmm, I wonder if it's worth asking if they can fix pre-facelift SIM85s?
I've been saving the broken ones I swap out and writing the code and fault on the underside, just in case they can be fixed in the future.

Worth a call I’d say. The tech guy really knew his stuff. He wasn’t interested in the actual fault code but knew if he could fix it if you told him the description.
