Airbag module -HELP!

Hi, I’ve had some really good help here before. I have an issue which seems common with the Z4. I have a 2005 2l roadster and the airbag light won’t switch off so it’s failed the MOT. It’s the module in the centre behind the gear stick. I have my part number but there seems to be lots and lots of different part numbers for the 2005 model and they vary wildly in price. Are they interchangeable? BMW have not been very helpful apart from offering me a part for £800! Is there anyone who can help??

What number do you have?
I can tell you exactly which ones will work and may even have one.
Done two this week and another one coming here on Saturday.

This is the one in the car. Trying to find a part but struggling. Where are you based?

Just checked.
I have a couple of the 2767s and also a couple of the 9811s.
I'm in Norfolk, just by Snetterton race track.
Any good to you?

Failing that, do you have anyone near you who can do the coding required?

In the last couple of months I have had people travel from Yeovil, Cardiff and Wigan to get theirs sorted. I'm told it still works out cheaper than going to a garage for the work.

The problem I have is that the MOT has now run out…is the coding a big job?
It takes 30 minutes or so if you have the right kit.
Takes longer to swap it over, but if yours is already out that makes it easier.
If you removed it without disconnecting the battery first you will have set codes in the other two modules that will also need to be cleared for the light to go out.
The problem I have found is garages will give it all the bluster and then claim it cannot be done.

I understand the issue with the MOT. Where are you?

This is so helpful thank you! I’m not sure the garage really are sure what they are doing to be honest. I’m pretty sure they didn’t disconnect the battery. I am based in Oxford. They seem pretty stumped. It’s really stressing me out!

OK, well this may not be any good for you, but on Saturday 3rd August I am travelling down to Reading to do some work on another forum member's E86. There's a lot to do, so it may be a late visit by the time I got to you.
If you can wait that long, and get the car back from the garage, then I could bring my laptop and a selection of modules with me and hopefully sort it out for you?

Just one thing: given your concerns with the garage....... are they 100% sure it's the centre module? Do you know what codes they read?
I can bring my complete box with satellite modules too, but no guarantees I would have the ones to match your car.

As it happens I’m out of the country until 3rd July - my partner is trying to make it work until I’m back so that could definitely work. I’ll speak to the garage tomorrow - it’s local so should probably lu be ok. How much would it cost? You would literally be saving me!

They had their auto electrician in and set there was water damage on it. That said, I had water sitting in my car because of the heavy rain and the roof motor being absent (I moved it to the boot) so I was surprised.

OK then, you speak to the garage first. See if they can get the car back to your place. I can fit a new module, code it and rebuild the centre console. I'm assuming they've taken the whole thing out, not just the rear section and lifted the front bit a little. Anyway, that's not a huge issue.
If you can make it all work so the car is available for me on the 3rd August, late afternoon I'm guessing, then get back to me and we'll take it from there.

I'll send you a PM now.

:D Thank you so much for being so efficient and helpful and enabling my Z4 to drive another day!! Not sure what I’d have done without you!!

No problem at all: though I wasn’t fully prepared for the carnage the garage had left🤣
Hope it all goes back together ok and another zed gets to live on a bit longer 👍🏻
