Airbag light

Hi thanks everyone for the response.
The seat belt bong does go off if I drive without a belt, it's just a bit odd that I can see the passenger belt being plugged in and disconnected but not the drivers belt.
As for those 3 menus that's where I've looked and I only have the one code showing.
I don't think I'll have time to start stripping the car apart at the moment so it'll have to wait!
We have had biblical rainfall here in Devon according to the missus so it's probably water ingress.
I'm sure when I start the investigation I'll be back with more questions.
Also if the module is goosed ,roughly what is the cost for a replacement? I'm sure I'll need the super rare expensive one made from unobtanium!
Many thanks for everyone's response

A left one was on ebay this morning for £120 and went within a couple of hours! That wasn't a rare one either. Just hope the buyer realised it had to be a certain number and didn't just grab the first one!
You should be able to find the more common ones for less than that. £60-£90 sort of range.
Get the number, if your reader lets you, so we can start the search.

A replacement will need coding while fitted in the car, to update the VIN and System Time.
A few of us are able to do that for you, but none are very close. (Cardiff is probably the closest one to you)

The simplest answer is that an engineer/mechanic can test the drivers seat by driving it. With the passenger seat you'd need a fellow engineer/mechanic so they made it so it can be done by a laptop/code reader.

I'm sure modern BMW's can be checked on both seats wirelessly by someone in another country. :D

Hi thanks again
I've just been out with the trusty creator again and I have found this number 20241203_145933.jpg

Does this look correct?
Oddly its also reset the light and its not reappeared with 3 ignition cycles???

Well oddly that is the centre module (SIM85), not the left (SBSL).
So it's not the number we were looking for but fingers crossed it stays out.

That's the part number of the centre airbag module

So I have the dreaded red airbag light on the dash, it appeared today, car has not been driven much over the last 8 weeks as I've been away for work.

I changed the seats in my Z4 recently, the airbag light came on, and whilst I had several suggestions none worked.

What I can say is, 99% of ODB code-readers, including Carly, cannot read the code for "Open circuit" for the seat-belt, which is probably what's failing on yours. The wiring for the airbag is within the yellow ISO block under the seat, and it's carefully routed under the seat, so the suggestion that the cable has been pinched will more than likely be a red herring.

In short, get a decent (but knock-off) Delphi/Autocom reader; mine immediately found the open circuit code, which I cleared and as a result the issue was vanquished.

These are junk, like the majority of ODB readers; I wouldn't rely on anything this is telling you; I've been there, got that t-shirt on my BMW, my Honda, my Ford etc., etc.

Not sure either of us suggested an airbag wire pinched? No airbag in the seat anyway, so no need for a wire to be in there?
The code given by the Creator is very clear and they are proven to work on resetting.
[ref]Jcm325[/ref], check all those connections, but be prepared to change the SBSL.

Just to bring this to a close
The creator 310 finally managed to reset the light and its been fine for a few days now, so fingers crossed that's it....
I'm wondering if it was something to do with the car being sat for so long and seriously heavy rain? Possibly some moisture in a connector which has now dried out.
Many thanks to all who responded, if it comes back I'll reopen the thread

Well surprise surprise
The light is back on and now it seems to be a hard fault as it reappears every time.
The odd thing is its now showing the fault codes i think you guys were expecting earlier.
I know the creator 310 is not the best but when I bought the car it seemed to be a popular choice.
Attached is a picture of the fault codes
This was in the sbsl left pillar sub menu.
I'm sure its going to be moisture ingress thats caused this but I don't have time to strip it out right now. 20250107_150426.jpg
So my next question is obviously I need a replacement but I think I need a specific part number?
Can the creator find this number or do I need to look at the unit itself?
Many thanks

Well your Creator found the code for the SIM85 ok, so hopefully it will find the left one as well.
Failing that, refer back to Bigwinn's photo of the SBSL location and read the part number from the label.
