Hi all
After some help with my 2.5 2003 e85
I’ve had the car for two months now and all was good until i had all my interior trim painted a week or so ago
After putting my interior back together the airbag light has come on
I bought a c310 scanner to check the codes and the only code i get is “incorrect chassis number” and it will not clear and extinguish the light
Just took it to my local “friendly garage” and they get the same code and again it will not clear
I also have the check bulb light on and after checking all the bulbs again and again, it is still on the dash, not sure if these are connected but came on at the same time
When i did the interior i didn’t touch any of the airbags that i know of and only slid the seats back and forward
I’m thinking of pulling the seats out this weekend to check wiring etc but other than that i’m at a loss
Sorry for the essay but any help would be greatly appreciated

Can't comment on why your scanner is doing that, maybe try someones known good scanner if someone is near to you.
Since you only moved the seats when doing the paint job it could be as simple as loose/dirty connections under the seat, with ignition turned off or battery disconnected undo the connectors and spray electrical cleaner in the terminal then replug them in securely. You are going to need to clear the airbag codes to see if that solves the issue.
Put your location in your profile so it appears in the left side of your posts so if someone who can assist local to you can offer assistance.

Right then, quick update
Basically no success, disconnected the plugs under the seats cleaned with contact cleaner and reconnected and tried clearing the codes but still no joy
The codes do clear but when i turn on ignition again they’re back and the airbag light is on constantly
Also checked and cleaned the connections in the battery compartment
I did take some piccies as to what my c310+ scanner was showing

Hopefully these all make sense to someone, i’m not sure about the “incorrect chassis number” part but have been researching more on the number codes with little success
Any help greatly appreciated

'Incorrect chassis number' makes me think this was probably a previous issue with your car at some point before you bought it and someone has already had to replace and recode (including chassis number) the main airbag module to your car perhaps?

But as soon as you actually try to check, say the B-pillar left, it tells you incorrect chassis number?

Then the scanning tool defo does not do what it is supposed to. I have the exact same and you are supposed to be able to read and where needed reset each module ...

Thanks for the replies

Big question is where do i go from here as i’m at a bit of a loss now?

Evening... the airbag light can come on for many many reasons & that unknown chassis nos is a bu@@er

I can recommend ETA @ Brands Hatch, they’re pretty booked up ATM & the airbag light issue I had recently had to be solved with a new small battery loom which contains a protective fuse.

Apparently they’ve had a few in for the same issue, where are a highly respected & knowledgable local Indy used by many in Kent & Sussex on here.

Good luck 👍

Thanks Jembo
I’ll look into those guys, give me a good reason to give the z a blast

Does anyone local ish have better equipment to possibly help me out with this?
Happy to provide beer tokens and come to you if needed?
Thanks in advance

Have a similar airbag light on problem which can be cleared with C310+ but comes back on immediately. Q for Jembo, where is this small battery loom you are talking about ? Also, I am about to check seat connectors, I was told only the passenger has an airbag connector, but there is also a connector under drivers seat, what is this one for ?? (seats are manual adjusted)

Well i had a final attempt myself to sort this today, totally removed the passenger seat checked and cleaned all electrical connections under the seat and for the seat belt buckle etc
All put back together and the error code cleared and the airbag light went and hasn’t come back, well chuffed
Thanks for all the replies and ideas guys
Much appreciated
