Airbag light - no INPA indications but roof leak

I've failed MOT on airbag light (it's been on since I bought it), a friend with INPA has scanned the car and not found anything on the airbag module. The ABS module may be on its way out but that shouldn't impact the airbag light.

I do remember part of a youtube video on roof mechanism removal suggesting that water ingress to the cabin could cause the airbag light. I've removed the interior and carpets, and can see the three airbag related modules in the car.

What exactly could cause this light and what do I need to do to fix it?

Scanning with inpa not always show airbag faults, z4 is funny car and airbag faults stores under different module.

The module sits right under that plastic centre section next to the handbrake. Pricey to replace and will need coded to the car

Check other modules mine was something like B pillar right took a while to find it ,sorry i cant be more specific cant remember exactly

I think you need to be checking the "battery cable safety connections" I had similar on mine, nothing picked up in either Carly or with Snap On Modis Ultra....

The system is detailed here: https://sites.google.com/site/lixinautoelectrical/battery-and-charging-technology/bmw-safety-battery-terminal-and-cable

Turns out the sensor wire underneath the positive jump start terminal under the bonnet had come adrift. Cleaned and refitted, airbag light disappeared on it's own when battery reconnected. :)

Apparently, you can bypass the system to eliminate it I didn't do this.

BE CAREFUL with the connectors, a new cable is about £1300...

plug it in a gt1, i tried multiple third party softwares and newer bmw computers, and those didn't read the faults.

gt1 easily read the fault, and mine said driver ignition something error. my mechanic checked all plugs in the door, connecting to the airbag, and he was able to delete the fault code.

hopefully it doesn't go back
