Airbag left side satellite??

I've got the following airbag fault codes showing and have just been told that they have tried resetting the system but that the left side B pillar satellite definitely needs replacing.

SGM/ACSM/SBSR systems
[*]No message B,5,12,20 satellite B pillar left
[*]Deactivation satellite B pillar left
[*]Self test too few messages
[*]Fault during activation and deactivation of passenger airbag
[*]Undervoltage 93E7

Quote for parts and labour was £320+vat :-(

I found this, which shows a lot of different part numbers for the same unit depending on year. Ideally I'd like to get a replacement unit from a breaker - any idea if they're interchangable or do I need to match what's already on the car?

Thanks

This is my one, let me know if its any good to ya, and it wont be any where near £300 for the part !!!

Sorry mate - didn't spot your post at the time :( That part actually doesn't look quite right - the part I need is tapered (sort of like a "4" shape in profile).

Since then I've managed to get the part from the breakers. It appears it's just two plugs to connect, but I'm not sure where to actually find the unit. All I can see online is the diagram in the link in the previous post. Can anyone help with how I get at it?

It's part number 3. Can't work out if it's in the door, behind the door, or below the door.
From the WDS, it appears to be between the floor and the door, just forward of the rear edge of the door. It's the same on either side.

Ok the saga continues. The module has been replaced and the fault codes cleared. If I run the "clear errors and pre-drive test" function on the safety module in INPA the light goes out and stays out while driving. However it comes back on at each startup. The only fault code logged is that the new satellite module knows it is in the wrong car, but on INPA it says "would not trigger a warning light". I can't see any other codes logged in any of the relevant modules.

:headbang:

Can anyone walk me through how to code the new module to my car? Struggling to see where to go in DIS. Any other "secret" modules that can trip an airbag light? I've been through safety information module, and left and right B pillar satellites.

pretty sure that will still trigger a light, as I had exactly the same for ages.
I believe you can't "code in" second hand units, only those who have never been assigned a vehicle.

Hi there

I have the same error on my Z4 at the moment I don't suppose you still have that new module by any chance?

Satellite modules hold mileage info so check internet as some say you can re-code them others say not.

I realise tis is an old thread but just in case it helps someone else I had the same problem. I took achance with a second hand one from ebay reasoning that even a new unit would have to be programmed. I installed the second hand unit and striaght away there were errors. I used NCExpert to change the vin code and then the only remaining errors were down to the mileage being incorrect and the time wasn't syncronised with the other units. I rani ISTAS-P telling it I had replaced the unit and it needed initailising. This did take about ten minutes looked up airbag light off and it hasn't been on since.....happy days. I did try ISTA_P from the very beginning without using NCExpert to change the vin code but it failed to program the used unit, it only succeded when the VIN number was correct. I don't know if it failed because of something I did as I'm no expert........just a stuboorn old arsehole who refuses to give up.
