Airbag indicator light

Yesterday for the first time I noticed the airbag indicator light stayed on. I've got an appointment with the dealer next week to have it checked out. Anyone ever have this problem? It's still under warranty so I'm not too concerned

Happen to put your knee down in the passenger seat, for cleaning or anything else???? The sensor in the passenger seat seems to be fairly easy to break with direct pressure on a specific spot, such as full bodyweight on a knee.

I don't remember doing anything like that, but you never know. I did clean the inside of the windows not long ago and I guess I could have done something like that trying to maintain balance while reaching over the dashboard. Maybe I need to take a look under the seats to see if any connectors are pulled apart. Thanks for the feedback.

Went in for service today and as it turns out there was some kind of error code causing the problem. They checked all the airbags and everything is OK. I guess they just needed to reset everything. As for my intermittant wipers, there is a problem with the sensor. They had to order a new sensor. They said they don't need to pull the windshield which I was glad to hear.

I called Yesterday and they told me that there would be a recall sent out at the end of September.

Interesting Bob - bet they don't do that in the UK where manufacturers are less concerned about legal cases...lol

Just got my letter today in the mail. :D :D :D :D So I have a trip to the stealer. Wait till they see the miles. The car has not been to a stealer for 2 years.

By the way, how do they fix this problem take the seat out?

My understanding is that the seat comes out and then they take the pieces apart and then strip the cover on the bottom part and replace the cushion and put it back together. The 03 may be just replace a pad, however, in the 04-05 the cushion is replaced. Thats how I understand the fix.

Good to know you had this sorted out Bob... Could you spare me the details, if any? I mean as far as which production dates are part of the recall, etc? Thanks...

Parts are in and will be replaced on Thursday.

I will ask for sure the dates and who is covered. I think that only 04-05 are covered as the 03 used a mat instead of the cushion. I will check for sure on Thursday.

Oh, by the way, if the seat pressure sensor pad is bad, and you have to replace the cushion, the cost for that cushion is $2400.00

free for me, covered by BMW From what I understand anyway. We will find out on Thursday.

Z went in on Thursday for the repair. I called the parts department on the Monday before and had the part ordered with the correct skin color and had it in the shop ready to go. The bottom cushon was replaced completely. The only thing is the cover was very dry and and did not have 136k miles of use on it. Looks a bit different, which is ok for me. Cost was $0.00 and the light is gone.

Nice one.... any chance you could ask why your UK buddies are left out in the cold while you're at it? ;)
