Airbag Delete

Hi folks

My 2004 3.0Si is being converted to a track only competition car.

As part of a steering wheel change, harness and HANS etc, I will no longer have the airbags (and not want them either!).

Will simple removal of the airbag module suffice or will this throw a trillion codes? Would it be better to use simple bypass resistors for the seat occupancy sensor and airbags. My preference is module removal - so I know, without doubt, that they won’t deploy on track.

Thanks, as always

Pablo

I'm not sure how to get rid of the codes but I was just reading on one of the Z4 forums that all the airbag stuff combined totals 25lbs, so that is a good amount of weight savings.

It may throw a LOT of codes when being read, but it should only put the single airbag light on the dash. Bit of tape to fix that distraction

Nothing should stop any of the other functions of the car, but of course you could test by unplugging first to be sure. I don't think it's possible to code out the SRS systems due to their safety critical nature (but I have been wrong before!).

I'd see if you can PM Liam22 as he is racing an E86 and must have dealt with all this already?
