Airbag dash light - Code 9852 - help!

Few days ago the airbag warning light came on on the dash on my 2003 3.0 Z4 (E85) and the code reader shows error code 9852 - SBSL: Short Circuit, Firing Circuit, Front Airbag, Left, Stage 2 (E85), or Active Head Restraint, Front Right (E6X), To Ground.
SBSL (Satelite, B-Pillar, Left)

Error cleared but it came on again fairly quickly.

I'm presuming I can ignore the head restraint fault as this is the car is an E60 5 series. Has anyone had this error before on a Z4 and knows what needs to be done to resolve the problem?

Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks

Looks like the fault code is pointing to the left side satellite module, left side behind the trim panel at the side of the seat. Looks like there is a wiring short, maybe water damage shoted it. Need to have a look behind the side panel and check the wiring connections. Disconnect the battery before doing anything with the airbags.

Thanks a lot. So is the satellite module essentially in the sill, behind or ahead of the seat?

Water has previously got in to the passenger footwell so guess that may of shorted wiring.

Does the code indicate that the issue can only be a wiring issue rather than the unit itself needing replacing? I'll probably end up having to take it to a BMW specialist but don't want to be told the unit just needs replacing because it's easier for them than investigating.

Just behind the seat side panel, check the wiring for water damage, the roof motor lives just above it so check the drain is not blocked and that you don't have a cavity full of water where the motor lives. Water build up in there could well spill over and down to the satellite module and cause issues.
