Is the barn part of your estate too?
I've seen some interesting planes when Farnborough is on as it's only a few miles away. I always meant to go, but there isn't a public day anymore.![]()

This time I’m the dad, taking my son to his first air show.... in the Zed of course,![]()

Hah, brings back memories. Lucky enough to be involved in some air displays (not in the driver's seat though) and was posted to Singapore where I saw the Russians doing the 'Cobra' when it was still a new thingenuff_zed said:After following in my footsteps, No.2 son is now on a Typhoon squadron at RAF Coningsby.
Keeps sending me photos of the Spitfires, Hurricanes and Lancaster practising right over the roof of his barrack block.
Lucky sod!

I was on 617 Sqn back in the late 80s when they were based at Marham. The Vulcan used to do its display practice over our squadron site.
I vividly remember sitting on the wing of a Tornado in a HAS (Hardened Aircraft Shelter) when the Vulcan did its max rate climb over the top. This was in the days of the RAF still operating it, so it was not restricted in any way. I couldn't even hear myself think, and all my tools rattled along the wing and onto the floor!
Out of interest, the Typhoon is from 29 Sqn, the Operational Conversion Unit, which my lad is on.
Not sure if you've heard the story but as you can see it has the roman numerals for 30 on the fin, not 29.
Many years ago, a painter was told to go and paint 29 in roman numerals on one of their aircraft. Not being the brightest spark, he asked how to do that?
Easy, came the reply; 2 X's, one, X.
So out he went and painted 2 X's and one X.
And so a tradition was born.
