Does anyone know if air con can be removed from z4,s ..
I live in thre UK so see no reason why id need it,and if it's hot I'll put the roof down..
Does anyone know if it's run full time of off the engine belt or weather it's engaged when operated ,
Either way it'll Have an associated radiator and resoviour that increases weight of the car, ,in my opinion unessaraly..
I prefer the Colin Chapman approach to sports cars.loose the excess weight before you look for horsepower..
Any thoughts positive or negative welcome.

Yes, it can be removed, but is there really any point? When off, it consumes no power from the engine, and I reckon you'd save 10-12 kg in weight tops. A lot f messing IMO, and it will affect the resale value. The cars all come with AC as std, and I use mine all of the time to be honest.

Also, on those odd summer days in the UK when it's raining and you can't get the roof down, it can get quite hot in the cabin
 
I use mine a lot. Gets stuffy with the roof up sometimes. Demists the windows quicker. Keeps the car fresher inside. AC is not all about keeping cool in the summer you know.

But, if you want to make you car unsellable, go ahead.
 
Mine's switched on all the time, no matter the season, but I've got a coupe.

It's usually set at around 18ºc, but can give me a nice, no-flies in the face, no exhaust fumes, no road noise, cool blast in the summer.

Leaving it on helps keep the seals lubricated and thus stops the refrigerant leaking out, so you don't need to top it up or replace seized compressors.

According to the BMW parts catalogue the compressor (6kg), evaporator (1kg), condensor (2kg) & associated pipework/brackets (3kg) only weigh about 12kg.

Actually if its 15kg, its more than 1%. More like 1.19% :poke: :rofl:

Biggest downside with having no aircon, is when you drive with the top up (presumably when its cold or wet), the cabin gets really foggy/moist.
An airconditioning is also a big dehumidifier, so also less chance on all kinds of fungi in the interior.

But indeed if you already have a LiFePO4 car battery, no insulation/carpets, lightweight wheels, lightweight brake rotors, stereo/nav delete, lightweight carbon bucket seats etc etc, deleting the aircon is a massive weightsaving.
But so is skipping this years christmas dinner :lol:
